Unequal
Read 2 Corinthians 6:14
Paul advises the church in Corinth to not be yoked with unbelievers in 2 Corinthians. I used to think that was so insulting. The implication always was, in my experience, to mean that it was a sure bet that I would get dragged down by the unbeliever I was with. Come on, I have a stronger relationship with God than that! Whats the problem? The problem is that my thinking was completely selfish. Maybe I could handle that kind of relationship. But what about the other half of this equation? I have a Christian friend who recently got involved with a non-believer. She, like me, thought that she was strong enough for it. Her hope was that through the relationship, she could help him find Jesus along the way. In theory it looks nice, but we found two major flaws with it in practice. First of all, in this type of relationship, they were the focus of it, not God. "Finding God along the way" wasnt an effective ministry. Secondly, belief in Jesus Christ (or in any type of supreme being) stems from an understanding that there has to be more to life than what we have here on this earth. This guy she was dating found the love he needed in her so he stopped looking elsewhere. He didnt perceive a need for God, because the relationship he had with her fulfilled his desires. If you think you may have fallen into this type of situation, Id ask you today to really examine your priorities and motives, and your partners. If you find that the type of relationship you have is not putting God first, pray that God would lead you to a place where you can help your friend find Jesus remember that the most important thing is the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, not an individual human relationship!Laura H. ~ VA Tech
Apply it! Are you in a relationship with an unbeliever? Maybe you think that they will receive Christ from your witness. Well, thats possible but not probable. Pray about your relationship and wait for God's answer.
