OUR DOGS | We had three rat terriers: Daisy May, Axa, and Deacon. Axa and Deacon were Registered. We loved our rats! Daisy lived in our house with us and was treated as if she were our own child. Daisy lived to be 23 years old and died of natural causes. Our other rats were used for hunting. Rats will hunt nearly anything. From bears and boars to birds and mice. They are real "People Pets" and need to be in close proximity to their humans. If you are not able to tolerate this, these dogs are not for you.

Georgie Boy and Axa, aka "Axel" |
Georgie Boy came from Tulelake, CA. He was a "Decker Giant" type male. Unfortunately, he was hit by a bus and is no longer with us.
We bought Deacon from some breeders in the Red Bluff, California area. They lived on Deacon Lane, hence the name Deacon. When we got him he was 10 weeks old. He is our registered Standard A-Type male. We will breed him to Axa when she is old enough. Deacon met with an unfortunate accident that took his life. |

Axa came from breeders in Central Point, OR. She was 3 months old when we picked her up. We bred her with Deacon, and she whelped 3/1/01. 3-boys/2-girls. All healthy & fine. After they were raised, we gave her to a hunter who would use her for her breed's purpose and she became the queen of the place.
BEAR - Was the only one without an aka
We believe in responsible pet ownership and as such, we believe in spaying and neutering all pets, which are not intended to be used for breeding stock. Both Daisy and Bear were neutered. We believe in keeping blood lines pure and in purchasing registered stock from reputable breeders. But we also have been known to take in strays to keep them from being euthanized.

Daisy May was our first experience with Rat Terriers. She was a B-Type, the short leg, long body type. Her original owners did not dock her tail as it should have been. Daisy came to us quite by accident. Nick and one of his friends were out hiking on the Devil's Garden, when they saw what they thought was a stray cat. They worried that a cat would become Coyote bait, so they went to investigate and found Daisy. She had been abandoned after having had a litter of puppies. She had been out there for several days and was quite gant. At first, she was cranky and growled at them, but after some coaxing, she decided to take a chance with them. They brought her home to me and that was the end of the road for her. She was named Daisy May (after the Li'l Abner comic strip) because of her markings - patches of Blonde color. You got it, Dog Patch, USA, which rhymes with Daisy May, the Blonde bomb-shell in the strip. |

^ We also owned Bear, a Shar Pei and Border Collie cross. He was very big with long black hair and a wooly undercoat that kept him very warm in even the coldest of weather. He sleeps outside under the stars even in below zero weather. The only time he used his dog house was to get in out of the rain, which he intensely disliked. He had a white patch on his chest under his neck and a white tip on his tail that was always catching his eye as he wagged it and caused him to chase it in circles. Bear came to us from our eldest daughter, Nicole, who could not keep him any longer. He was an absolute delight. Kids loved him and could do most anything to him. He did'nt have a mean bone in his body and he never bit them no matter what they did to him. Bear was our watchdog. He barked to let us know when anyone came on or near our place. He barked at the deer and coyotes that came on our place too! He was a real survivor. He had been shot once and ran over acouple of times but he always bounced back and came home to us. He lovee to race cars - not chase them, but race them. He ran along in front and tried to anticipate which way the car would go. He ran very fast. We didn't let Bear run loose for many years because he was accident prone. He was either tied up or loose in his own enclosure out at the barn, where he could run the perimiter. |

Our newest additions are Leopard Curs. Shabby was a long-haired male purchased from Randy Oller, in Burney, California, and who is out of McDuffy's Strain, and Maggie a short haired female who was given to us. They are not registered with the ALCBA because they first have to prove themselves to be able to do exactly what they were bred for. They are eligible to be registered as soon as proven. We bred them and had a litter and kept one merle female from the litter, Hannah. Nick also acquired a merle female puppy from Mr. Oller's stock just two weeks older than Hannah and called her Hark. He hunts bear and bobcats with them. We have had and lost several and replaced them: Hannah, Maggi, Hoot, Shine, Hark are ones we lost, Mose, Tanna, Hopi, Lady are replacements. And we have two pups from Hark: Eyeball and Mattie Ross.
