Introduction To Steel Combat Course
Kelsey Short Youth Camp at Smithville Lake
June 2003

Mission Statement

We are three friends from west London who are passionate about our hobby – Viking-Age re-enactment with steel combat. Many years ago, as the ‘Living History’ side of what we do was being developed, guys like us were branded ‘Combat-Wombats’. No interest in LH, crafts or persona, just hitting each other with swords and then back to celebrate our victory (we always have a victory to celebrate – even when we die!).

Partners, even wives, come and go but we are still there, Sunday night training in the same venue for 10 years, events with The Vikings in the Summer, banquets or feasts whenever. Over the last 15 years between us we have visited and fought in almost every country in N. Europe.

This trip to the US is being paid for by us, because we want to meet and train people who are interested in what we do. We are doing it in our capacity as training officers (Recognised Training Thegn or RTT) of The Vikings, and with the blessing of our national Training Officer. This means that those who complete the course will receive a photo ID pass that will be valid for at the next major Hastings re-enactment in 2005 or 2006.

Yahoo
Since our type of steel-weapons combat without lots of armour is still fairly new in North America I have created a Yahoo list called The-Vikings-List to help us stay in touch with each other. It is currently a private list, so I or my fellow moderator will have to approve you.
