Gynni enjoyed visiting the World Famous Dinosaurs in Cabazon, CA off Interstate 10. These dinosaurs have been in movies, videos and commercials. In the year 1964, a man of
transcendent vision and talent embarked on a project of incredible
magnitude. "Construct a creature that will bring new life to this
barren desert," the voices said to him. "Build the largest
concrete reptile these mortals have ever seen." And Claude Bell
answered the call. As if in an overrated Kevin Costner film, he gave in to
the drives that urged him, although his field of dreams was to be tended
by a 150-foot-long brontosaur. |
From the interstate highway, the uncommon view of two giant dinosaurs, on an arid plain surrounded by mountains, is an irresistible magnet. But tourists are not the only ones compelled to stop. Well within LA's convenient day-drive sphere, the Cabazon dinos became media darlings in the 1980s, appearing in everything from Coke commercials to rock videos to the film Pee Wee's Big Adventure. |
