SKYSCRAPERS : Skyscrapers are quite difficult symbols to understand in a simple way. They can refer to many things in dreams. In short they show how good or bad you feel about something. But they can also link to issues of confidence and the higher you are up a building then the more confident or able you feel.

The main problem with skyscrapers is knowing what they are referring to. They could be a symbol of confidence but could easily be symbolic of other peoples confidence in us. They are two slightly different things. They could also be symbolic of belief in yourself but may also be symbolic of your actual measurable abilities. Its often difficult to pinpoint exactly what they mean.

KEY WORDS(Pick a quote which captures your feelings right now. Think especially of the day before the dream) :
- "I have been feeling so good about it"
- "I need to show how able I am "
- "It is about confidence"
- "A chance to prove my abilities"
- "I demand respect"
- "I need to show how strong I am"
- "I feel lacking in confidence"
- "they made me fel so good about it"

DREAM STUDIES : Real dreams with skyscrapers in them
----------------------
THE DREAM I was walking around an unfamiliar town, but in my dream it was the town where I lived. I walked towards a square and I knew it was very early in the morning, but I decided to have my hair cut. After talking to the hairdresser, I found myself on top of a very high building, and I was looking at the sea. The sea was very strange, big waves were curling and lifting in the air, and I remember telling my mother "It's so good we're high up and the water cannot drown us". As soon as I said these words, the sea rushed into the town and the waves were getting huge, sometimes blue sometimes red, and they would crash at my feet or all around me but no water was touching me, so I felt safe. Then I was on an air-bed with my mother and a small baby, the water surrounded us and the air-bed went as high up as the wave, and when the wave was crushing down I told the baby: "Hold the air bed tight with your hands and everything will be all right".

THE REALITY The dreamer had just become pregnant unexpectedly. This was causing major mood swings. She was having to face having her first baby and did not really know what was expected.

DREAM MEANING The dream captures the following feeling within the dreamer - "I have just become pregnant. Everyone is showering me with praise but deep down I am not sure if I will be a good mother. Being a mother is a big responsibility and I do not know the first thing. It will also be very hard work."

THE INTERPRETATION The secret to understanding dreams is to know what is likely to trigger a dream. Here the dreamer had just become pregnant so the dream is likely to link to some feelings linked to that very important issue. We get a mixed set of feelings in such cases. One easy way to start understanding the dream is the skyscraper. Skyscrapers are like gauges in that they test how good we feel about something. In this case the skyscraper signifies how she feels elated at her own pregnancy. It could also be symbolic of how others feel about her - she feels more confident due to the respect she

The tidal wave is a symbol linked specifically to feelings. It often links to moments when we have strong feelings and these are overcoming and dominating our thoughts. It shows we are not perhaps thinking rationally but more with our hearts. In talking this through the dreamer realised that having a baby does make her feel good yet it also is a subject which she has absolute no skills with. This is her first baby and people tend to naturally think that women can look after babies but this is far from the case - many of the skills are learnt. The dreamer was feeling nervous and apprehensive. In theory the birth would be wonderful yet in practice she was worried she would not cope.

The dream ends with her mother saying that "everything will be all right". So she knows that she can depend on her mother and other people for support.

Symbolic Meanings
BED : "something that affects the dreamer very much - in this case having a baby will transform her life"
DROWN : "overwhelmed by issue"
WAVE : "thoughts which have no proper basis in reality - unsupported by any facts - the dreamer is swept away by praise yet in reality its going to be hard work"
-----------------------
THE DREAM I am staying in a high-rise very luxurious and modern hotel of glass and steel, but I am wandering around the lobby as I can not remember my room number, nor, which floor the room is on. But I eventually choose a floor - in the latest version of the dream it is the 17th floor (in the previous version, it was the 5th), when I find myself at the elevators. There are always several elevators and they are very large steel ones, but they do not all stop on all the floors, and it is rather tricky for me to work out which lift I would have to take to my floor. The doors of the elevators also open and close so rapidly that one has to jump in and out, which causes me quite a problem as I am carrying two very heavy shopping bags. The problem results in me riding up and down for some time, but, finally, I am in the right elevator and going up to my floor , but I have no time to get out when we reach the 17th, and so I have to go to the top floor which, when the elevator opens, I see is actually the roof of the building. Again, I have no time to get out, so down I go again, back to the lobby, to start wandering around again. And then I wake up.

THE REALITY The dreamer made her own interpretation on this recurring dream. She stated that she was not getting "where she wanted to be". She was rather in limbo. She needed some encouragement.

DREAM MEANING The dream captures the following feeling within the dreamer - "I do not feel like I am getting the support I wish for. I need some encouragement from people around me to help build my confidence"

THE INTERPRETATION Top floors are symbols of confidence and achievement. So this dream is quite clearly something to so with that. But this high-rise building is a hotel. Hotels are symbolic of the impact of the outside world on us. Houses (our own house ) usually symbolise constructions within our minds. Hotels are public buildings though and so they symbolise us being the GUEST of someone else's thoughts. They symbolise the impact the world has on us.

One major feature is the shopping bags which the dreamer is carrying. We go into shops to buy the things that we want that we presently do not have - and so shopping represents the things that we wish for at the moment. Bags represent emotional baggage. That she is wanting something and dragging it around with her. It is a nuisance in a way and burdening her. But nevertheless these are things that she feels are necessary.

In the hotel the dreamer is quite lost and wanders. She makes no connection with people. That is significant as the hotel is a symbol of people and their impact on her. So the lost feeling symbolises that feeling of limbo. She is wanting to connect with people and maybe looking for encouragement. So the significant part here is the lack of connection with people. The lobby is the reception area. That is symbolic of her social side and welcoming nature. That is where things happen. It is where things begin.

Symbolic Meanings
ELEVATOR : "confidence rising and falling "
HOTEL : "the dreamer wants help from other people - she wants people to do everything for her"
SHOPPING BAGS: "desperately wanting something - the dreamer is weighed down by all her wishes. She wants too much"
TOP FLOOR : "your feelings about mixing with people you see as accomplished and confident"
WANDER : "lacking any real direction in life"
----------------------------
DREAM TIP : Try to think of dream symbols as words. Think of skyscrapers in dreams as representing the phrases "feeling confident" or "feeling good". Now write down several quotes which capture new feelings on important issues in your life. Also write down quotes which capture your feelings about what happened yesterday. Think of quotes such as "Its going to be a major test of my abilities tomorrow at work", or "I think my girlfriend is cheating on me", or "My foot seems to have recovered and so I could start to go jogging again". Now look back at these quotes and carefully see where the phrases "feeling confident" or "feeling good" could seem to have any relevance. If there is a strong connection then look for other connections with other symbols.

THE DREAM I was on the dream mood dream forums somehow chatting, wearing a black T-shirt with a pirate printed on it in white. Somebody sent me a message saying “who’s the girl in the pirate shirt” I replied with my silver elegant phone by saying “that’s me.” I went on walking in the corridor, I found out that two people a boy and a girl had committed suicide because they were under pressure, no one told me but I knew. I got a message again; from the same person saying “who’s the girl in the pirate shirt” I replied with my silver elegant phone by saying “That’s me. Didn’t you see my users’ picture on MSN messenger?” The boy and girl had taken an over dosage in some sort of drugs, and jumped off the top floor of the building landing into an aquarium full of water. Then I walked along, and the same person who had messaged me was standing in the corridor leaning against the wall with his hands in his pocket.

THE REALITY The dreamer had had some quite frightening experiences with premonitions. Very real and bad things had happened. This had had a major effect on the dreamer who had become scared to go to sleep and taken to drink to avoid the issues. Just recently she had talked on dream interpreting forums and many people were trying to encourage her to have more positive views about dreams. But really this was never going to work as the dreamer will always have the bad experiences of dreams lurking at the back of her mind.

DREAM MEANING The dream captures the following feeling within the dreamer - "I have had many frighteningly accurate premonitions. Recently people have been trying to convince me that I should take a more positive view of them. But these scare me. I hate premonitions and they are not fun."

THE INTERPRETATION This dream featured a dream forum and so its quite possible that the dream links to the current state of her opinions on dreams. The elegant phone was a symbol that had featured in her dreams before. It had always been a symbol in dreams which were major premonitions. In this dream it may not be a symbol of a premonition but rather a symbol linking to all those premonition dreams which featured an elegant phone. So this is a big clue as the dream is about the psychic dreams that the dreamer had previously had. It was about her elegant phone dreams and her feelings about those.

Skyscrapers are symbols of human emotions and often symbolise how we feel about something (either good or bad). But here the boy and girl jump off to their deaths. But in hitting the ground they are doing something very symbolic. The ground in dreams links to the facts and reality. So in hitting the ground they are looking for a more realistic approach based on the facts. And this indeed corresponded very much to the dreamers real life thoughts. She had been influenced to think of dreams in a more positive way but now she was coming to the conclusion that psychic dreams are facts and that they can be linked to things that were not always positive. The boy and girl link to attempts to get her to have a new opinion about dreams based on feelings. They are linked to a more spiritual and positive view of dreams being good and such views are quite dominant on dream interpreting forums.

Suicide in dreams can link to something where you have "given up" trying to do something. In this case the dreamer had given up on trying to feel more positively about dreams because at the back of her mind lurked the reality as she sees it - that psychic dreams are real.

Drugs in dreams often linked to skewed vision and delusions. So perhaps the dream captures the dreamers opinions about more spiritually minded people. She feels that a positive view of dreams based on spiritual enlightenment is just nonsense that is delusional. Dreams can reveal the future but their message is not always going to be positive.

So in reality the dream captures the dreamer giving up on attempts to see dreams in a new way and instead basing her opinions on the facts as she sees them. The man in the dream does nothing. In the dream he is obviously associated with the elegant phone and therefor links to the psychic dreams. Men often link to issue involving intimidation and male emotions such as fear. So he represents her fears about psychic dreams. In the dream he is doing nothing and that links to the real life way in which bad dreams have not been bothering the dreamer as much recently. But they do not have to anything and his simple presence shows that her fears of psychic dreams still remain.

Aquariums link to dreams in many ways. Water is symbolic of the unconscious mind and an aquarium links to the studying of particular thoughts coming from our subconscious and how we are studying them. In some ways they are symbols of former dreams that we have studied.

Its certainly not an easy dream to interpret especially the skyscraper but this interpretation was symbolic of the thoughts that the dreamer was having. She was now forming her own view on dreams based on the reality of dreams as she saw it.

Symbolic Meanings
AQUARIUM(water): "water and fish link to life within our ever changing and moving subconscious"
AQUARIUM : "studying the subconscious and dreams - "
DRUG : "many people are divorced from reality -their view on premonitions is highly unreal"
SUICIDE : "give up on something - the dreamer wants to give up trying to feel good or bad about premonitions and simply wants to address the facts"
TOP FLOOR : "feeling good or bad about something - the dreamer has been trying to have a more positive attitude towards psychic powers"
T-SHIRT : "a casual image towards something"
WHITE : "clearness, clarity and understanding"

DREAM TIP : Dreams are about pivotal moments in our emotions. They represent change. For instance you may suddenly decide that someone you know is not to be trusted. So on balance you have decided to alter your view.

THE DREAM I am in the ruins of a tall building. There is some of the cast from the TV comedy 'Friends' there. I make a judgment about Joey based on his character. He is an immensely stupid character who is an actor in the comedy. I then realise that actually he is the one with the most money. I then go about scaling the walls of this skyscraper.

THE REALITY The previous night the dreamer had watched 'Friends' for a short while and thought how pointless and worthless a night on TV it was. The dreamer was a new convert to digital TV and this was the first nights watching that he did not enjoy.

THE INTERPRETATION Dreams can feature strange subject matters. They often capture things from the previous day. Sometimes those thoughts can be on quite banal subjects. In dreams it is important to make associations and in this case the dream featured 'Friends' - the TV Comedy. The only thing that came to mind to the dreamer was the previous night. He had watched it and thought - "Oh no its another of those endless repeats of Friends".

Dreams usually capture some thought forming in our minds. When the dreamer watched a few seconds of 'Friends' it was the low point of a very dull evening watching TV. Since he had converted to digital TV he had many new channels to choose from. On this evening he could not find anything to watch at all.

In the dream there is evidence of those thoughts. Skyscrapers in dreams can symbolise things that we feel good about. They can here capture the positive thoughts the dreamer felt about TV in that the building is a skyscraper. Yet it is a ruin showing that those previously good feelings have now been ruined and fallen apart. Overall the dream did capture an important feeling within the dreamer - "up until now digital TV has always provided something worth watching. But today I was quite deflated. Watching the repeat of 'Friends' was the final straw."

Symbolic Meanings
RUINS : "something is a total disaster"
SKYSCRAPER : "feeling good about TV"

THE DREAM I am on some huge ramp like thing. Its a cross between a hill and a skyscraper type thing. I am clawing my way to the top. Its a huge effort. There is a guide rail which I can attach myself to which makes it easier to ascend to the top. Yet for one section its missing. But I am climbing up nevertheless. Its like climbing a mountain though

Then I am going down the stairs at great speed.

THE REALITY The dreamer had been trying to pay greater attention to his health. He had been trying to improve his diet eating a much better balance of foods. Yet the morning of that dream he woke up and decided to laze about in bed for another couple of hours.

DREAM MEANING The dream captures the following feeling within the dreamer - "I have been trying to pay greater attention to my own health. Now I realise its a slow gradual approach I need. Its something you have got to pay attention to each and every day. A few bad days can put you back a long way. "

THE INTERPRETATION The main link to the health issue is the hospital. The hospital links with often emotional issues but it can equally link to you making efforts to improve your own health. This linked with reality as he had made great efforts to improve his health. Yet in the dream it was much easier to come down the stairs than to ascend the hill or skyscraper. That maybe represents the idea that good health is a lot harder to gain than is thought. Its something that takes constant dedication. If you decide to be lazy it can have a major effect. Its more about getting a good balance to your life. If you behave well three days out of four then thats not good. You have to do this all the time. So the dream is about him realising that his laziness is the main problem. Health is a state of mind. You cannot cram in lots of good behavior to make up the bad behavior from yesterday. You have to be consistently well behaved.

The guide rail maybe refers to the dreamers obsession with help guides. He was trying to precisely keep to a strictly balanced diet.

And also despite his attempts he did not feel especially well after these few days of real effort. So maybe the dream links to that. Because although he had kept to a strict diet he had not been exercising well during that time.

Symbolic Meanings
CLIMB : "gaining greater health is more like a climb "
GUIDE : "a recommendation - the dreamer has been looking at recommendations of diet"
HOSPITAL : "improving your own health - in this case improving diet"
RAIL : "forced down one line"
SKYSCRAPER : "attaining success - in this case succeeding at improving his own health"
SLIDING DOWN : "The dreamer realises that a few bad days can put back your cause a long way - you slide back down at great pace"
----------------------
DREAM TIP Some dreams are very emotional. Some dreams appear absent of emotions. In such cases its likely that the dream symbolises some point that your mind is trying to clarify. Dreams can be about strategies towards various problems in your life. The following dream was somewhat complex but there are string reasons to suggest why this dream linked to the dreamers strategy towards her teaching. This had changed quite radically just recently.
---------------------
THE DREAM I am in a house. It has several stories. Dinner is being made. Something goes wrong and I realise that lots of fish has simply gone top waste. Thats the fault of my sister. Later there is a little girl who is running around half naked whilst no one is doing anything. There is also lots of knives. I have cleverly placed them so that they are available for all to use on the walls.

Later I am in a skyscraper. At one point I move to the top floor. After a short while I ask permission to go downstairs for a short while before coming back up again.

The parent jokingly jumps over a barrier or balcony. Its a joke because the child thinks its on the top floor and she will be jumping to her certain death. Yet its revealed as a joke. But security is there telling them its wrong to do that. They should not go near the balcony at all.

There are lots of children around and they are using their own ingenuity. They set up a heating system by using the shower to create heat. I am trying to set up a game of chess. I decide to get two boards - one is a full size board with large pieces whilst the other is a small magnetic board which is for easy viewing. Yet the children have not got magnetic chess pieces.

THE REALITY The dreamer was a teacher and had been trying to encourage her students to think in certain ways. She wanted them to take control and use their own ingenuity. She was thinking about strategies and how to teach them. It was not just about showing them the answer.

DREAM MEANING The dream captures the following feeling within the dreamer - "I have been trying to change my teaching methods. In many ways I want my students to depend less on me. I want them to have confidence in their own abilities. I tried this out and yesterday the results were very good. I will try to develop this strategy"

THE INTERPRETATION The dreamer woke up and did not really know what this dream was about. Often its worth trying to establish some simple links to real life issues. One link here was with the dream symbol children. Children can symbolise your enthusiasms or enthusiasms in some sense. The dreamer racked here brain and felt that she had been trying to engage her students enthusiasms.

So she then tried to develop this line of thinking. The dream involved chess and chess is definitely linked to strategy. That was very relevant here as she had been engaged in a strategy towards her students.

There were other strong links to the dream and this real life issue. The dream featured a skyscraper and that too could be seen as relevant with the issue. She had been trying to get her students to have confidence in themselves.

The early part of the dream was also relevant. Perhaps the early part of the dream represented the dreamers feelings about her own strategy. She felt she had been wasting energy(wasting fish) in trying to just solve her students problems. The house is more likely to be a symbol of herself yet the skyscraper is more symbolic of other people. Large building can symbolise other people and how we relate to them.

Its not an ideal solution to the dream but there are many strong links here. Its a dream that deals with complex symbols.

Symbolic Meanings
CHESS : "strategies - in this case the dreamers strategy towards teaching her students"
CHILDREN : "enthusiasms - trying to engage her students enthusiasms "
SKYSCRAPER : "appearing confident"
SUICIDE : "giving up - she does not want her students to give up"
