Series Information
Gensomaden Saiyuki is based on a popular Chinese novel, "Journey to the West".In Kazuya Minekura's Gensomaden Saiyuki, the characters from Journey to the West take on a more human role in the story. The original characters walk around in animal from. For example, the Son Goku, Sun Wu Kong in Chinese, has a monkey-like face. Well, he's not always hungry like Goku is though.
Also, there are more twists in the story, and the Gods play a more important part in the story. Homura, the fighting god in Saiyuki, doesn't even exist in the original storyline! The fighting god is Nataku, Ne Zha in Chinese.
The four characters' previous lives are also different. As far as I know, Hakkai, or Zhu Ba Zie in Chinese, is the only one with a known history in Heaven; as Tenpou Gensui, or Tian Beng Yuan Shuai in Chinese. In Saiyuki, Son Goku is Son Goku, Sanzo is Konzen Douji, the Goddess of Mercy, Kanzeon Bosatsu's nephew, and Gojyo is Kenren Taishou, some army general or other.
Also, Hakuryu. In the original story, the white dragon changes into a white horse. In Saiyuki, it's a jeep! XD I find that pretty amusing. And talking to your car takes on a whole new context. Haha! I'm a sucker for guys with pets.
