I just purchased a 5-6yr old too. He is very loving but it seems he doesn't know how to step up and if he doesn't want to get on you he will not. also I have had a problem getting him to go in his cage. I would appreciate any suggestions. I have only ad him for 3 days, I know it takes some time for him to get used to his new surroundings. He has taken to me but will snap at my husband if he tries to get him to step up. My husband can stand there and talk to him and he will coo and cluck his tongue b t he better not try to get him or he snaps at him. He snapped at me last night but I think he was either after my bracelet or scared because we were having a thunder storm. I didn't ppull back but I did tell him that he was being a bad bird and left him alone for a few minutes. When I went back to him all he wanted to do was cuddle and of course show off by dancing. This is my first big bird. I have a six month old cockatiel. so any advice would be of help. Thank You. Hop to hear from you soon.

We have an Amazon Green cheeked. She is 7 years old, and a woman hater. She adores my husband but me,dont ask. She hurls abuse, laughs like a drain if she gets to bite me or intimidate me. Yet I clean and feed her every day. She even has a try at biti g me when I replace her seed and fruit dishes. It all started when I took her to be microchipped. Since then I have been the dregs of humanity. Before although not my greatest fan, I was allowed to tickle her head and neck although I got the occasional peck now it is all out war. Who needs a parrot. But she is a character, and that is what matters. We have only had her for a year, her previous owners sold her to a pet shop and she stayed there for so long I was emotionally blackmailed into buying her (who needs a parrot for gods sake) Once inside the house she changed tactics. Her wings were clipped when she arrived, and last summer we were able to take her into the garden. But since then she has moulted and I am loath to clip her wings again. Our vet advises against, he believes it cruel. Although free around the house she never attempts (touch wood) to escape and the door is frequently left open for the dogs, (other targets for her venim) what would you advise. Michele

I love Amazons too. I presently have a Blue Front, Yellow Nape and a Blue and Gold Macaw as well as a Timneh African Grey, Waglers Conure, Sun and Jenday Conure that have just hatched 3 babies, a Indian Ring Necked Parakeet and a Quaker: that is besides he 4 cats, 3 dogs, 3 turtles, 2 rabbits, 2 iguanas, 2 guinea pigs, and 1 ferret. Many of the animals were given to me by people that lost interest in them. I would love to go into a bird business someday, and if so, I would mainly want to breed Amazons. They are so smart and so talkative, it not always that cuddly!!!!

We are fostering an umbrella and a catalina Macaw for a lady who lives in a apt. that does not like the noise. She has trained them very well, but we are unable to handle the macaw (a BIG Biter). The Cockatoo, Mr Jones is a doll. He buries his head in y arms and wants to be loved. Today he layed his head back and when I scratched his throat, he just coo'd like a dove. I think that I will really miss him when his owner comes to get him. I almost hope it will be a long visit. This is the first time we have had big birds so it is a real experience. Nice page! You seem like really super people, and your birds are terriffic. I laughed so hard at the description of your Umbrella Cockatoo--Sparky. I have one too, named Hollywood. I think it's a she, although her eyes are not really reddish. Somewhe e between black and brownish red--probably some kind of freak! Hollywood has countless nicknames as well, my favorite is chicken, because of her love or roosting in my arms to watch t.v. She loves to dance and sing as well, but her favorite music is Riv rdance and other celtic and Irish stuff. Her new favorite is the soundtrack to Full Monty, and of course Jimmy Buffet!
