BEQUESTS
The beauty of a bequest to the Hibiscus Coast Hospice is the knowledge that you can continue to care for others in your local community when you are no longer here to help in person.  Your influence will be felt well beyond your lifetime.  If you would like to make a donation to Hospice but do not have funds available now, then a bequest allows you to make your donation when you no longer have a need for your money.  All gifts, large and small, do make a difference to us.

BEQUESTS:

It is a simple procedure to leave a gift to Hospice in your Will.

You need only include the following wording:

“I ……………….....................…...…….. give and bequeath (free of all duties), to the Hibiscus Coast Hospice Charitable Trust, the sum of $……....……. or ……….. percentage of my estate, or  description of property ………….............................................................................................……...........……… for special or general purposes, and I declare that the receipt of the Secretary or other Officer, shall be sufficient discharge to my Trustee for the said legacy, nor shall my Trustee be bound to see the application thereof.

Signed ………………............……”

We suggest you consult your lawyer, the Public Trust Office or a trustee company such as NZ Guardian Trust who will be able to explain the process further.

Alternatively you may like to approach our Honorary Solicitor:

Nola McGowan, Vlatkovich & McGowan, 660 Whangaparaoa Road Ph. (09) 424-8146

The New Zealand Guardian Trust will provide a free Will and Enduring Power of Attorney provided they are named as one of the Executors of the Will.

Heather Hawkes, Trust & Financial Services Manager, is prepared to visit clients in their own home, at the Hospice, or if more convenient, at the office she shares with Age Concern, Orewa. Email: hhawkes@nzgt.co.nz

YOUR WILL

Your Will is the only way in which you can be confident that your affairs will be settled as you would wish.  A Will enables your estate to be administered quickly and economically.  It makes the processes easier for your next of kin. Your Will can be a way of expressing your love and concern for your family, friends, close associates or organizations with whom you have a strong affinity or commitment.  Many people express their wish, in their Will, that a donation be made to a Hospice in lieu of flowers.  So whether you have few possessions, or many, for your peace of mind you should also have a Will.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO HELP OUR TERMINALLY ILL?

A gift in your Will is a very positive way to do this. There are several ways in which you can nominate your gift.

A SPECIFIED SUM This is a very common form of bequest, however, it is recommended that you review your Will regularly to safeguard against inflation, otherwise the real value of the gift may prove, by the time it is paid, to be less than you originally intended. If you have incurred recent large costs in the form of say Rest Home fees, then a specified sum may leave your relatives short.

A PERCENTAGE BEQUEST This allows for a specific proportion of your estate to be given to organizations such as Hospice. It ensures the gift is inflation proof, especially if your estate increases in value.

A RESIDUAL BEQUEST You may wish to leave the remainder of your estate after other specified gifts have been deducted. This allows you to make provision for relatives and friends, then leave the rest to our Hospice.

GIFTS OF ASSETS You may prefer to leave a specific gift. A property, jewellery, shares, stocks or bonds or other gifts you wish to nominate. These can be retained by Hospice as a capital investment or sold to raise funds.

CAN YOU CHANGE YOUR WILL? Yes. In fact it is a good idea to review your Will at least every 5 years. Divorce, remarriage or other changes in your family can affect your Will. However, if the change is very simple and straightforward, a Codicil (amendment) can be added to your Will. Your donation may be tax deductible.  We suggest you speak to your lawyer or financial advisor about this.

THANK YOU : On behalf of the Board of Trustees of the Hibiscus Coast Hospice, thank you for considering leaving a legacy to Hospice. Should you decide to include us in your Will, please let us know so we may thank you personally.
