Mermaids are known all over the world. Finnish mythology tells us about creatures who live in the sea, and the lakes and rivers. They are called "Water folk".
Water folk could be men who tempted people to follow them in the depths of the sea.
Water folk could be spirits of the drowned who still haunt those places where they perished.
Water folk could be young women who sit on the shore washing themselves but slip back into the water when someone approaches.
