4/6/03: Went to the Leederville/EB loudest bands competition final on Sunday and was rather dissapointed. Not in the bands, the bands were great and a big congratulations to Zeta Theory who ended up winning and get to play at next years Big Day Out, but in the entire sponsor competition thing. Yeah alot of local bands got to play and it does give unkown, maybe even struggling bands a chance but the judging was supposably the band with the loudest fans wins. I believe the band that invited the most relatives, school friends, workmates and people off the street wins. That is not the way to get to the Big Day Out. The whole thing seemed like a ploy to get as many people to The Leederville Hotel and drink as much EB as they could. I also must correct something in my last post. End Of Fashion consist of Justin and Rob (ex-Sleepy Jackson), Hobsy (Greenroom) and Vanessa (Jebediah). Check out the new Placebo video for 'This Picture' here. |
6/6/03: The Fergusons have announced that their new single will be "Sinner Is Red" from their upcoming album. The single will be released mid-July with the b-sides "Applying The Formula" and "Die". They will be playing a show on the 13th of June at the Swan Basement with Grand Central, End Of Fashion and Melange. See more gigs in the Gig Guide. New Powderfinger, Sleepy Jackson, Blueline Medic, Eels and Good Charlotte clips on Rage tonight so keep an eye out for those. Powderfinger's new single "On My Mind" has hit the airwaves and personally I think it is pretty average. It might be one that grows on you but who knows. Please vote in my poll or leave a message in the guestbook. |

The highly anticipated Dave Grohl side band "Probot" should be releasing their debut album in the next couple of months so keep an eye out for that. Try this and this and this. |
11/6/03: Today is the official "I Hate Tobey Day". If your name is Tobey then die and if you know anybody by the name of Tobey then call them now and tell them to FUCK OFF. You can catch The Panics on Saturday with The Stickfigures and The Bank Holidays at The Rosemount Hotel and Jae playing solo on Sunday at The Hyde Park Hotel. |

12/6/03: The Vines new album should be out in a couple of months. Some of the songs floating around that might be on the album include Drown The Baptists, Blues Riff, Sun Child, Fuck The World, Evil Town, Winning Days, Amnesia, Autumn Shade Part II, TV Pro (Whore). Many of these songs are on demo CD's and b-sides but something is better than nothing. In other news Alex Lloyd has finished mixing his new album with Tony Hoffer(Turin Brakes, Beck) and should be releasing the first single "Coming Home" mid August. |

18/6/03: The Living End's new album is getting the finishing touches and should be released some time around September. The yet to be titled album looks to have 14 tracks including: Tabloid Magazine Who's Gonna Save Us? End of the World Jimmy What Would You Do? In the End Maitland Street One Said to the Other Putting You Down Short Notice So What? Rising Up from the Ashes Hold Up The Room This review is a little late but better late than never. Saw The Fergusons, Grand Central, End Of Fashion & Melange last Friday and it went off. Got there a little late so missed Melange but I heard that they played a good show. End Of Fashion are tightening their set and sounded much better than usual. It could have been the surroundings but the vocals sounded great. Grand Central are getting a big following and played a great show, everybody showing support for the local lads. The Fergusons, although looking a little tired and some microphone difficulties, played an excellent set of excellent songs. The setlist was Die, Napalm Waltz, Fourth Grade Nothing, Everything's Gone Bad, Let's Cook It, Second Seat, Sinner Is Red, Waste Of Time, As Time Goes By, Sea Down South and Cream Charges. Their next show will be the single launch for Sinner Is Red on 12th July at The Rosemount with Little Birdy, Tucker B's and Next Stop Jersey. |
24/6/03: Went to The Superjesus on Sunday at the Lookout and had a great, time. Kingpin were on first and played a decent set. I wasn't a big fan of the Kylie cover but overall they did a good job. The Superjesus came out ready for their 4th gig in 4 days. A rockin crowd cheered on the band as they played a fuckin kick-ass set which included Shudder, Secret Agent Man, Bodies for Breakin, Stained, Stick Together, Over and Out, Manic, Gravity, Sandfly, Medication, These Dreams, Saturation, Down Again, Let It Go, Second Sun, Dead Ended and Ashes. Although drenched in sweat they even agreed to sign stuff for fans after the show. Blink 182 have announced the name of their new album due out around October - Use Your Erection I And II. The cover for the new Powderfinger single On My Mind looks alot like a painting from a Birmingham art festival. Both of the pictures are here, do you all agree?? Damn Powderfinger and their lack of creativity. I'm feeling anti-corporate today so nobody should go to any fast food store for the rest of the year. To help you out here are some recipes. They are real too. McDonalds Recipes KFC Recipes Coca-Cola Recipe With The Sleepy Jackson having a new single and album out soon there should be a tour coming around soon. |

27/6/03: The Amplifier Bar was packed to the brim last night as two of the brightest Perth bands played with alot of hype surrounding them. Little Birdy were in their usual surroundings and straight off the bat people were dancing in front of the stage. Sure they were drunk but even drunk dancers are good for a band that hasn't even released anything (Vanessa from Jebediah was one of the drunk dancers). The setlist for Little Birdy was Want You Happy, Baby Blue, Beautiful, Lovesong, Robbery, Andy Warhol, Lullaby, Relapse, Too Late and Alright. The Panics were greeted with a warm reception from a town that is proud of the success they are getting in the UK. Back from their travels, the songs were sounding very tight quite proffesional. Songs from their past EP's and single were played along with newer songs that will be on their album. |
30/6/03: The Amplifier was once again packed out Saturday night, this time for the launch of the long awaited Sleepy Jackson album The Lovers. Supporting Luke and the rest of the Sleepies was Rick Steele (Lukes dad) with his signiture country/blues and Cartman, who took everybody through a set of old favorites and also included a few newbies. Everybody crowded in close when The Sleepies arrived on stage, those of us who haven't seen the band lately were very curious to see the latest to join the ever changing lineup, and I'm sure everybody who was there would agree that this line up is one of the best Luke has recruited. Each song had its own magic about it, from polished oldies such as Mini Skirt to new songs like Vampire Racecourse and Morning Rain, the bands sometimes 4 part harmonies spot on in songs such as the country tune Drink Wine. Moment that will be remembered, from when the band left Luke to sing Explosions, which he dedicated to a friend who had past away, to the explosive Pack Of Nails. Having seen The Sleepy Jackson a year and a half ago supporting Eskimo Joe, I remember my eyes were glued to Luke,(or as he was known then Luoke), more for his stage antics then anything. When one of his pedals stopped working half way through the set he ended up throwing it across the stage and smashing his glass of water all over his electrical equipment, so when his pedals stopped working, not once but twice during the Amplifier gig last night, I was expecting fireworks, but he just set about trying to work out the problem, apologising to the crowd, smiling explaining that it always happens to him. Even though he no longer has the stage antics he had a year ago, he still has the same stage presence, and still manages to hold everyones attention. The full set list was: 1 Don't You Know 2 Cavities 3 Morning Rain 4 Good Dancers 5 Pack Of Nails 6 Explosions 7 Drink Wine 8 Old Dirt Farmer 9 Stand 10 Beck 11 Acid In My Heart 12 Mini Skirt 13 This Day 14 Come To This 15 Vampire Racecourse ENCORE 16 Love You No More - Mandy |
