| I met Dzung (Andy) through a close friend of mine, Thanh Hoang Barretto who introduced us outside of the counselors' office my freshman year at Andrew Hill High School. And honestly...I took very little notice of this shy guy. That summer my family moved to Texas and my "knight in shining armor" tried to stay in touch. Eventually we lost contact, and for the next five (5) years moved on with our lives. In the summer of 1994, after our freshman year in college, my friends and I decided to get together to do some catching up. Thanh came to pick me up at the airport with two "strangers" in tow. Tam, who is now a very good friend of mine and this other one whom I have never met...or so I thought. My first thought was, "Wow who is this handsome guy?". He had on these jeans with a baby blue shirt...Thanh's response to my question was "Don't you remember? Its Dzung!" And this time I took notice. Andy and I spent some time together before I returned to school. And we started seeing more of each other as he would take the six (6) hours drive from San Jose to Riverside Friday nights and return Sunday. I would fly in on holidays to spend time with him and eventually he moved to Riverside where I was attending school.. After seven (7) years of ups and downs and dire predictions that "it will not last" we are currently in our eigth (8th) year and in the mist of planning our wedding. Andy is my night in shining armor and I thank Thanh for being the catalyst in getting us together not once, but twice. |
