Destiny?
by Bae Min-Soo
I did not believe in the concept of "destiny." I thought that the universe must be randomly 'ordered.' I believed in the principle of coincidence, rather than the notion of destiny. If there is destiny, it would mean that there is some unique rule that decides everything happening in the world. This unique rule can also be called God.
Calvin, who is the leader of the protestants during the Renaissance period said that there is predestination, based on the existence of the God. I, however, neither believe in God nor did I believe in 'destination'--until yesterday.
I still do not believe in God, but now I believe in the 'destination.' This may seem like a paradox; but, believing in 'destination' makes my life calm. I do not have to worry about the future because the future is already decided. In a few days I am going to consider again this paradox more deeply, in order to make it logical. If the paradox remains paradox, I may not believe in the idea of 'destination' in the future. Now, however, I am believing in the notion of destination; and this belief is, at least, soothing me.
