Glacier Trail in Jasper National Park Alberta, Canada |
The Glacier Trail is a 90 kilometer (56 mile) hike. It spans three mountain passes between the gorgeous and popular Maligne Lake on the north end, the Maligne, Jonas and Nigel Passes, ending at the Nigel Pass trailhead on the Parkway inside the Banff Park boundary just south of the Columbia Ice fields. The trail can be hiked south to north also. Either way the trip provides time in beautiful valleys and outstanding views all along the route. We took nine days but the trip can be done in a week or less. |

We are having a great first day with much blue sky. Patrice has shed her leggings. This is about 6 km from the trailhead. It is a good start after freezing in a campground on the David Thompson Highway the night before. We are about 4 km from Boulder Creek Campground where we plan our first night on the trail. |

Looking south down the valley we've just hiked. We are not at the summit of Nigel Pass yet but close. And the SOG is showing the effect of a summer with a bit too much beer. |

We've crossed the summit and are descending Nigel Pass on the north side about 3 km from Boulder Creek Campground. What a great way to spend some time and with a wonderful daughter hiking partner. |

How much more gorgeous can it get? But it's been a long uphill first day and the long shadow hides Boulder Creek Campground. It is down there somewhere above the water and we are both looking forward to it. |
