MILITIA Mecosta County MI 9th Brigade 5th Division Spring Cold Weather Training continues emphasis is on staying dry with the increase in tempatures comes rain use of improvised shelters helps to protect the team(s) from observation & the elements. Hypothermia is still a reality during the day & at night adequate precautions need to be taken during Spring Training to prevent cold weather injuries. Use of the buddy system to monitor each others health is a must in every two man rifle team & four man fire team. Make sure that you bring warm seasonal clothing, a small packable white gas stove, extra fuel, cook pot-canteen cup-spoon, thermos, & adequate food supply. Frequently using your stoves to heat water, food to replenish body heat provide calories & energy. Make sure that all teams use rotating security procedures on all essential tasks to avoid sweating that could lead to wet clothes & potential hypothermia. Basic Shotgun classes equipment selection, ammo selection, use of chokes, range capabilities, hunting & defensive use, aftermarket accessories, care cleaning, firing reloading exercises. Depending on the type of training, time, & location make sure you have the right choice of shotgun, ammo & accessories. Shotgun, birdshot, buck shot, slugs for those on designated target range for defensive tactics. Members Spring Turkey Hunting make sure you have your current spring turkey license with the correct time period & location, shotgun, turkey shot, calls, camouflage clothing & other accessories. Operations in rural urban environments are conducted in farm & urban buildings, observation, reporting, communications, operational security, tactics, mission planning & employment are taught. When members are operating in rural & urban environments use of "civilian clothes" is permitted during training periods. All clothing must be insulated layered quality outdoor, work, farm clothing of a solid earth tone the style type used at work & on the farm causing it to appear as normal "civilian work clothing" suitable for use in a civilian environment during operations other than war. We are practicing blending into the local population which we are part of without gaining undue attention. Hand to hand combatives as it applies to a member(s) of a covert team operating without conventional weapons in an area, environment, situation where weapons are not available permitted, due to surrendering them is taught. Members participating in combatives classes & urban environment classes do not bring weapons training aids are provided. Bring binoculars, still & video cameras w/film, radios, cell phone, small tape recorders, flashlight, compass/GPS, extra batteries-recharger, local maps, protractor, clipboard, paper, colored pencils, #2 pencils, sharpener, erasers, pens, daypack with thermos snacks-food, & toiletries. Rifle team fire team integrity will be practiced at all times to ensure security of team members with use of a "cover story" to conceal our training goals for example. "I was just resting here my friends & I are checking out the local area & thought we might look around to see what the area has to offer in the way of restaurants & stores the other half of our group should be right back." "My friends are in the restuarant eating while we watch the vehicles & stretch our legs" or "It is such nice day & wonderful area I thought I would enjoy the scenery & take a few photos." Have a believable "cover story" normal reason for the area location you are at. Remember we are practicing blending into the local population which we are part of without gaining undue attention. Urban surveillance exercises are directed at placing an individual & group of individuals under surveillance while documenting their activities & movement. The individual & group of individuals placed under surveillance are advanced member(s) of MILITIA 5th Divsion MI participating in the urban surveillance exercise & are trained in counter surveillance measures. Those members will be present at the debrief at the end of the urban surveillance excerise. Members who demonstrate a high degree of proficiency, attention to detail & have the ability to blend in naturally are asked to participate with those members trained in countersurveillance on future urban surviellance excercies. Fire team inside improvised shelter with a whole chicken they brought as a food source. Rifle team fire team integrity will be practiced at all times when training in uniform & in "civilian clothes" to ensure security of team members. Use of a "cover story" to conceal our training goals is recommended during the spring phase since some of it is done in "civilian clothes." For example "Just thought it would be nice to get out & do some early spring camping with my friends on our property since it is warming up enough to pattern our shotguns & do some scouting for the upcoming spring turkey season." Make sure you & your team members all have current valid spring turkey license with the correct time period & location, shotgun, turkey shot, camo, calls & other necessary equipment before hunting. | ||||||||||||||||
