July 4th Parades
by Ciera Lewis

There were two parades on the 4th they were:  the Humboldt Park Parade and the Cudahy Parade.  The parades were really fun but they were also really HOT!  We marched the parade routes and after the parades we got ice cream and Cracker Jack.  All in all, I can say we had a lot of fun.
St. Francis Days Parades
by Heather Meyer

The St. Francis Days Parade on September 2nd was interesting in several ways.  During the parade, instead of marching, we cheerfully handed on flyers about Job's Daughters to girls along the route.  While we did that Meghan, wearing full regalia, rode ahead of us in Mr. Blunt's red convertible.  Behind us was a stilt walker dressed as Lady Liberty, who walked in the center of several circling motorcyclists.
Jamboree
by Meghan Cigale

August 18th-20th was Jamboree at Green Lake.  Many girls - and adults - went and had a great time.  As always, there were many activities for us to do, such as crafts, sports, biking, scavenger hunts, and of course, the Jamboree Jog.  The talent show and pageant were both very enjoyable.  Heather was picked for Librarian, Kirstyn for Representative, and Leanna and Margaret for Choir at the Grand Bethel meeting.  This year at Jamboree, there was a special surprise after the pageant instead of the Venetian Boat Parade,  We all went down to the lakeshore and soon found out  - there were fireworks!  All in all, I had a lot of fun and I enjoyed yet another Jamboree.
School
by Winifred C. Marshall

School bells are ringing, loud and clear;
Vacation's over, school is here.
We hunt our pencils and our books,
And say goodbye to fields and brooks,
To carefree days of sunny hours,
To birds and butterflies and flowers.
But we are glad school has begun.
For work is always mixed with fun.
When autumn comes and the weather is cool,
Nothing can take the place of school.
Mall of America trip
Day 1 - August 6th
by Becky a Serious Shopper

On the first day of our trip to The Mall of America we all woke up really early and got on the bus.  We drove about four hours and then stopped for lunch.  Not good news for me, as I got sick on the bus ride up.  I thought I had food poisoning, but everyone else thought it was the 24 hour flu.  We then drove about two more hours to reach the hotel.  The hotel was very close to the mall.  We all had to wait a little while until we could check into our rooms.  When we got to our rooms we were able to rest a little and then it was off to the mall!  We all split off and did our own thing for dinner.  I was part of a big group that went to Ruby Tuesday's for dinner.  We had just about 3 hours the first night at the mall.  It was no problem for me to find something and bought it right away.  (I bought a pair of pink shoes with tennis rackets on them.)  It was overall a nice day.
Day 2 - August 7th
by Elizabeth Ganser-Moe

On the 7th of August those of us who went to Mall of America saw the Aquarium in the mall.  It was really cool and fun.  The "Behind the Scenes" was the best, we got to see the kitchen where they prepare all the food for the fish.  The kitchen there is the cleanest in the whole mall!  After we saw all the fish we went shopping which is always fun.  At about 7 o'clock we went back to the hotel, some of us went swimming and some just talked.
Day 3 - August 8th
by Chelsea Hassi

The third day of the trip, Tuesday, was the day that we (the people who signed up to go, anyway) went to the Science Museum of Minnesota.  The people who didn't sign up for the museum got to do more shopping.  There were a lot of activities to do at the Science Museum.  We saw two short films; one on the human body in an IMAX theater, and one on Mars that was in 3D.  There were also many hands-on exhibits, including a cell lab where you could look at your skin cells, and a weather center where you could recreate different weather patterns.  There was also an outdoor area that had a maze.

After the museum, we picked up the shoppers, then went out for pizza.  We had a lot of fun chatting and eating.  The girls even made up a whole "dinner table" scenario where Leanna and myself, who were sitting at the ends of the table, were the mother and father and all the other Jobies were our adopted children.  We spent the rest of the evening at the hotel.  Everyone had a lot of fun.
Day 4 - August 9th
by Chelsea Hassi

Wednesday was the last day of the Mall of America trip.  We were able to take a few hours for some last-minute shopping.  After everyone found their final purchases, we all got on the bus for the many-houred drive back to Milwaukee.  We stopped for some food on the way.  We arrived in Milwaukee and everyone went home.

Overall, I think all the girls had a great time on the trip.  Whether they went to the museum, the amusement park, or neither, I think everyone got what they came for, and everyone left happy.
Rummage Sale
by Heather Meyer

Our annual Rummage Sale was held on June 24th.  Once again, we had gathered more items to sell than we knew what to do with.  There were mounds of clothes, a varied assortment of toys, countless books, and four or five tables covered in an assortment of kitchen implements.  In addition to all that, there were a few larger objects and several interesting collectibles.  Anyway, we sold a good bit of it through our usual tactic of everything that fits in a bag for five bucks.  What we were unable to sell we packed into a Salvation Army truck.  A special thanks to all who donated items and worked  to keep the tables organized, it wouldn't have been a success without them.
All-Star Game
by Kirstyn Heino

July 25th was the Jobie All-Star Softball Game.  The girls who made the All Star Game were Kirstyn Heino, Elizabeth Ganser Moe, Leanna Kryszak, Meghan Cigale, Lauren Cigale, and Melissa Ingman.  The game was incredible.  Everyone had a great time and played awesome.  Congratulations to Meghan for getting MVP on our side.  Also thank you to Dad Rob Cigale for the wonderful cake.  Thank you to the coaches for a wonderful year and I can't wait for next year.
One Weekend as a Pageant Girl
by Katlin Schneider
When I was asked to write an article about the Miss Wisconsin pageant I was more than enthusiastic about pursuing the favor.  It was a stressful weekend, but I still managed to have fun and I want to be able to interpret what a unique experience it was.  The best way I can express that is with flashes of memories.
The whole weekend began with the long drive, of course.  The only reason we made it to Green Lake is because of Yahoo maps.  Thank God.  Then again, there was that potential wrong turn that we almost made on County K a couple times.  We used our common sense though and headed for the trees (my natural sense of direction is based on the location of greenery, something that no one should trust.  Then again, I made it to the pageant, didn't I?)
Our arrival on the grounds was kind of...hurried.  I became acquainted with a few bathrooms then.  I had to change into a little black dress and heels in the bathroom at Kraft.  In Kern, I had to change into my robe for the Ritual Competition and then back into the little black dress.  Not to mention, the incident where I traded bras with Danielle Johnson.
I felt relatively calm when I met all of the girls who were running along with me.  There were a few familiar faces, some of which the names had escaped me.  We all met each other with smiles as we waited to take The Test.  The Test, by the way, was ridiculously easy, with the exception of a couple of questions.  Needless to say, those typical butterflies were still flapping against the walls of my stomach.
I paced and mouthed the words of the 5th Messenger part while I hurried up and waited for my turn to recite it to the judges.  I choked when I did repeat it in front of them and I was disappointed, but I figured the interview would go well instead.  And...it did.  As far as I could tell the judges were impressed with my answers, though I think I threw them off when the asked how I would change the ritual and responded by saying it needed sounder sentence structure.
I spent a lot of time thinking on Saturday.  I was afraid of the responsibilities that I would take on if I did win.  On the other hand, I didn't want to let my Bethel down.  Between everyone wishing me the best of luck and the clock creeping closer to the time that I would have to slip into a formal and possibly answer "The Big Question", my head was beginning to hate me and retaliated with a major brainache.
I had my mom by my side, though, and my friends.  At one point, I just went on a quiet walk with Marz and mom down Memory Lane (literally, there is a path on the lakefront called Memory Lane).  The familiarity of my surroundings helped me to relax and so I marched right to the rehearsals for the pageant.
I had tons of fun getting ready for the pageant.  It was really the little touches that made everything come together.  Kirstyn was recruited to fix my hair and transformed it into an elegant mass of curls.  My mom painted my nails fire-engine red to match my dress.  My roomies kept the room quiet when it needed to be.
For the benefit of us all, I'll skip ahead to the moment that I sure everyone would like to know about.  The stage.  The final five.  All of that jazz.
Well, I was nervous.  Not so much to be on the stage because, honestly, give me a stage and I'll prance on it and sing.  I was scared of not knowing what would happen next.  When the final five were announced, I felt a huge weight lift off of me.  I mean, it was all up to those girls after that.  I wasn't surprised by who won either.  Ali Brokyl really was the nicest, most real girl there and Crystal...well, she's Crystal.  She's outgoing and blunt.
All in all, I wasn't sad that I didn't win.  I was happy to have the girls rush me during the caucus and to have both my parents present.  It was a relief to know that I hadn't disappointed anyone, not even myself.  From this experience, I learned more about myself.  At the end of the night, when I was done hugging everyone and had run though streamers and toilet paper and balloons, I felt immensely proud that I ventured through something new and daring and came out if it not just in one piece, but also with an addition to myself.
