The negH’var class battle ship is one of the newest and most powerful ships in the Klingon Fleet.  The current Klingon Flagship is a negH’var class, although it isn’t the meH’Haj…yet….

NegH’var specs

The ship has 38 decks, has a length of 680 meters and a width of 280 meters.  It is also 137 meters high.  Although these measurements are about the same as that of the Federation Sovereign Class, the negH’var has a lot larger internal area (the Sovereign, as with many Federation vessels, are very streamlined with the nacelles sticking out.  This gives them the extra size.)

The negH’var has a peace time crew of 2,320, although during times of crisis and combat operations this increase to some 3,020.  Nearly half are enlisted personnel, while a quarter are officers. The other quarter have no rank what so ever, they are the warriors who join to gain honour for their house and themselves.  In addition to this the vessel carries a normal complement of 1500 ground troops, the large troop area on board provides space for all of them so have space to rest, eat and train.

In more desperate times the ship can carry some 10,000 troops, this does however cause problems on board.  A huge amount of space has to be given over to the ground troops and their supplies.  During these times junior officers and enlisted personnel serving aboard the ship can expect to move to different quarters and share with others.

See the Klingon Data section for more about on board conditions.

The ship also has a large hanger deck, with contains shuttlecraft, transport craft, and fighters.  These vessels are flown by the ship’s crewmembers in support of landing operations, ship to ship assaults, or in defensive operations for the negH’var class itself.

Weapon Systems

Two type 18 disrupter cannons – These weapons are the largest and most powerful to be mounted on any ship in either the alpha or beta quadrants.  The main role of these weapons is to take down shields of starbases or destroy planetary defensives.  When these weapons fire the whole ship moves slightly, assault troops know this as the signal that they will be entering battle soon.  The main drawback to these weapons is that they only point forwards, so the ship must make a perfect head-on run up to the target.

Sixteen type 12 disrupter cannons – These smaller disrupter cannons are mainly used for close defensive operations and are distributed across the surface of the ship accordingly, however they are powerful enough to take on multiple medium sized ships without difficulty.

Seven Rapid Fire Photon Torpedo Tubes – The vessel has three tubes to engage targets in the forward arc, 2 for the rear arc, and one each for the port and starboard arcs.  The negH’var class carries some 2000 torpedoes.

Speed and performance

The negH’var class was never build to be fast or manoeuvrable, it was designed as heavy weapons platform with the ability to transport and support troops.  It can only make a slow and large turning circle.

Its top speed is warp 9.2.  The normal cruising speed is warp 8 (although since that breaks the imposed galactic speed restriction it isn’t really the ‘normal’ cruising speed….honest officer…)

In an emergency the ship can go to warp 9.7 for a maximum of 14 Hours.

Extra Features

The negH’var class is one of the few ships in service to have not one but two bridges…..and no that doesn’t count battle bridges…or reserve or any other non main bridge.  The first bridge is for main ship control, it is located towards the front of the vessel.  The second bridge is for fleet control, this bridge is located directly behind the first but they are separated by a bulkhead.  The Fleet Control Bridge is much larger than the main bridge as well.  The negH’var was always made to operate as the lead ship in any task force, commanders stand on the second bridge and oversee whole operations.  Ground assaults, boarding actions, and multi ship battles are all planned and overseen on the second bridge.

Another Feature the negH’var class has is an extendable walkway, which emerges from one of the upper-forward hatches.  The walkway is able to extend beyond the ships shields, so it is possible for the ship to dock with any other ship or station with it’s shields raised.
