Rochester, NY - Today it was announced that the Mini-Indy division will return to Batavia International Motorsports Park (BIMP), and subsequently it has been annouced that Michael Metzger Racing (MMR) will return there for the 2007 season. BIMP had suspended its 2006 season after unspecified difficulties that have been overcome. And now it is time to look towards the 2007 season with new ownership in place and promises of great competition on the track. The league is unique in that it gives individuals who want to race without most of the headaches associated with it. BIMP provides the karts and all safety equipment for the drivers, all they have to do is show up. Such a system is great for those who don't want to deal with the hassles of kart up keep and if something goes south for the engine, it's not the racers problem. Michael Metzger returns to the track after placing second in the 2004 season for the Wednesday night heavy division. "Even with the second place finish, the year end shootout (all-star race of the top three drivers in each division) where I did not even make the cut for the final race has left me with a lot of motivation to step it up this year. I have been eying a return to utilize what I learned at the end of the season that can help me come out of the gate strong. That was maybe what lost us the championship in 2004, struggling the first few weeks until I got used to the track and, more importantly, how to drive around it," said Michael Metzger. When asked how far along the program is for the May return, Michael answered "right now I have gloves I bought last year, in the coming months I'll get my helmet and mirrored shield, and that should wrap up what I need for racing. BIMP provides most everything else, but I felt it neccessary to get my own stylized helmet so everyone will know who I am on the track." The news front will be slow for MMR, but check back every so often. The 2007 plans for West Racing need to be worked out, as well as other sponsorship agreements and plugs. Starting in April the updates will get more frequent as the countdown to green gets lower and lower. |
