Michael Metzger first drove a go-kart at age eight in 1992, at Ridge Road Raceway. From that point until the track's closing in 2003, Michael made many appearances helping to fuel his desire to race. In 2000 Michael got directed to Dick Kluth, a respected vetern of the local NASCAR Modified Tour, who was based out of Hilton, NY. This helped Michael learn the mechanical side of racing and allowed him to meet Steve West. West, like Michael, is an aspiring driver who was learing his lessons by working for Dick Kluth. Michael spent the next four years working on and off with Dick, Steve and the rest of the crew at Kluth Motorsports. In late 2003, Steve directed Michael to a second year go-karting league based in Batavia, NY. Both agreed that joining the league would be beneficial to them getting better as drivers, so off they went in 2004 to compete in the league. Both finding success with Steve winning numours heats and features races along with the Wednesday Night Light Division Championship. Michael finished with four heat wins and two feature wins, along with a second place in the final standings for the Heavy Division. After helping Steve in the NASCAR Sportsman Modified Tour in 2005, 2006 on the other hand was a year on hold. From not having a sponsor, Steve and Michael will only race a few times this year with an aim towards a full time chase for the cup in 2007. The chase for the cup in 2007 came up short to a disapointed Michael. Lack of financial backing for the 2008 season lead to Michael taking the year off. 2009 looked like a fresh start to get back to victory lane at BIMP and get the ellusive championship, but it was not to be. The track cancelled the Mini-Indy League due to lack of its own funding. Michael was able to rebound and get into the Late Night Racing Online League. The goal for 2009 is to gain experience and respect of the competators in the LNR Truck Series and the MasGrafx Cup Series. With backing from Kendall Motor Oil in the Truck Series and Timex in the Cup Series, Michael will pilot the #27 Chevrolet in a limited schedule with 2010 being a full time effort. |
