MLK according to Hersey and Blanchard
part 2 of 2

In summary one can say that MLK used both leadership styles, participative and selling whenever he could. Nothing in the literature I read would indicate that he ever sued a telling leadership style. He needed people to belief in the purpose and did not like them to follow because they were told to do. Delegating on the other side was something MLK did on a regular base. He was forced to do so because of the size of the civil rights movement. However, it was never a pure delegating style since he always made sure that he was involved and could influence the anticipated action for the sake of the anticipated outcome.
