In 1890 Mr.Shumaker Constructed a large and elegant home at the corner of what is now North Main street and West High street .The cost of this house ,with the imposing tower,was $40,000 . Some years after his death in 1911,his widow found it advisable to move into a smaller place. She sold the propery to Dr.J.B.McHenry ,then a practicing family doctor in Homeworth. Minerva News dated 1919 carried the story of the sale with the headline " Most expensive property sale in the history of Minerva" The selling price as listed somewhere between $10,000 and $12,000 . This is the site of the present day post office |
