Camp Tips.. |
what they don't write on the blue paper ~not just a packing list anymore! |
There are a lot of tricks that will make your camp experience more enjoyable and keep you coming back over the years. Here are a few that I have figured out: ~Bring some kind of plastic backpack thinger for your shower stuff; my new shower stuff bag has a long strap so I can slip it into one of the rings of the shower curtain so all my stuff doesn't get wet. ~Don't bring black - it's summer and it's HOT; don't make it any hotter by attracting sunlight. I wore a black shirt once and it really IS hotter when you're wearing black or a dark color. ~Even though you're not technically supposed to, tank tops are good to wear because it's really easy to get changed to and from bathing suits when you're wearing them. ~Tank tops or baggy t-shirts are better than tight t-shirts because tight t-shirts cover a lot of skin and don't let air through as well so it gets HOTTER. ~Waste bug spray as much as you feel you need to - I think I'm going to go through 3 bottles this summer! ~Bring an alarm clock if you're not a light sleeper to ensure that you wake up on time. ~If you get your clothes for the next day ready the night before, you can take a little longer waking up. However, it is a PAIN trying to get your stuff ready in the dark. ~Unless you like being all pimply, don't skip your beauty routine because you're tired. ~Brush your teeth twice a day... just because I say so :-p ~If you wet the wall of the shower booth, the curtain will stick to the wall so you don't have to worry about it staying. ~If you have a backpack you carry around, put it down on the bench when you go to take a shower. That way, you will have a clean, dry spot to sit on when you're done your shower! ~If your bed is unbelievably uncomfortable, possibly because you're not used to having a springy mattress, you could try flipping it sideways, moving it off to the corner of the tent, and putting your mattress on the floor. ~Polar Bear is like a substitute for a shower in the morning, if you must have one. ~Don't bring 15 million shirts, because you WILL NOT wear them all, but they're a pain to pack, unpack, and lug around. ~Use all the space you save by not bringing every item in your closet to bring extra towels and bedsheets, especially if you are doing a two week program. ~If you are doing a ropes program, bring capri pants if you don't like to wear long pants a lot because sometimes the pants just have to be past your knees. ~Putting bug spray on your pillow really just makes your pillow smell funny. ~I've never brought a mosquito net so I don't know if it really works to keep bugs away, but the people I do know who brought them had so much trouble putting them up, having them stay up, and keeping their friends from messing with it. ~If you drop your disposable camera in the water, simply don't take any pictures until it dries and it should be fine. ~Putting on hand or body lotion doesn't make a significant difference in the amount of bug bites you get. ~Bring shower shoes. ~ email me or sign the guestbook if you have any additions! |
