Molly
Molly is Serena's red-headed best friend who has
this incredibly heavy accent in the NA anime. (I think it's New York or something like
that. All I know is that she's kind of hard to understand.) Molly is Serena's best friend
and let's just say that they're two of a kind. Molly is kind of a ditz, but no one can be
more ditzy than Serena. Molly, on one hand, does most of her homework and Serena on the
other hand, does her homework only when Molly allows her to copy off her paper. (Molly
drives a hard bargain though. For each paper Serena copies, she owes Molly a pizza. Now
that's what I call a good bargain.) Molly was a really active character in the first
season and then she sort of disappeared, and only made a few appearances here and there
for the rest of the series. She was a favorite of mine and I was disappointed when she
didn't show up in the series for long stretches of time. In the first series, Molly's
mother runs a jewelry store. One of the reasons I think Serena likes Molly is because
Molly tells her of all the new things that arrive
in the jewelry store and they often go shopping there (no, not for diamonds for Sailor
Moon's tiara, for rhinestones of all things). Molly's mother was the first person to be
turned into a Megaverse monster to collect energy. Sailor Moon
restored her to normal with Tuxedo Mask's help and the next time I recall Molly being a
main character in the series is a few seasons later. Amara and Michelle (Michuri and
Haruka to you new Moonies) had entered a true love contest that Molly and Melvin had
entered, too. Who's Melvin you ask? Melvin is Molly's dorky boyfriend. (I'm sorry for
those of you who like Melvin but I'd never go out with someone like him.) At first, it
appeared Melvin was interested im Serena, but I guess he had to settle for Molly. No,
seriously, Melvin really likes and cares for Molly and she's really touched by that.
Melvin was so excited by the true love contest, he couldn't sleep the night before. He
made a lot of mistakes in the first portions of the contest (did I mention that Amara and
Michelle were THIS close to
winning? They quit before the very last test, saying they had only entered for fun, and
didn't want to interfere with true love.) Melvin made a very touching speech to Molly
which won the contest and I think made up for all the other nerdy things he had done to
Molly in the past. Unfortunately, the evil forces step in, but you know how it goes.
Sailor Moon and the other Sailor Scouts, including Sailor Neptune and Uranus (now we know
the real reason they went) slap the daimon around, destroy it and restore everything to
normal.
