Richard Allen Moranis was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on 18 April 1954. Well, actually, to be completely honest, it is unclear whether he was born in 1953 or 1954. However, he was definitely born in Canada. He stands at a towering 5 feet 4 inches, or 1.6 metres. Before he began his acting career, he was the afternoon DJ on Toronto radio station CHUM-FM in the early 70's as well as the overnight DJ on Toronto radio station CFTR-AM, using the on-air name of Rick Allen. Soon after, he started acting, and at a fairly young age. He was 22 when he first did "90 Minute Life" and "Second City TV".
      On the SCTV show, Moranis and fellow cast member Dave Thomas created Bob and Doug McKenzie in protest against government requirements for "identifiable Canadian content" in domestically produced television programming. The skits featured two halfwit brothers who combined as many negative Canadian stereotypes as possible. Because of the obvious sarcasm and jocularity of the characters, they became so popular that not only was it turned into a movie, Strange Brew, but Moranis and Thomas were made members of the Order of Canada for their contribution to Canadian culture.
      Soon after this, Moranis and Thomas became very good friends and would later star in such things as The Last Polka, The Rocket Boy, and Brother Bear together. Recently, they have created "The Animated Adventures of Bob & Doug McKenzie." These collaborations would bond them, well, for life.
