In what today's (Thursday) Toronto Glove & Mail described as "an ironic twist of fate," Home Brew, starring Canadian comics Dave Thomas and Rick Moranis in their McKenzie brothers roles, may have to film in the U.S. with an American city standing in for a Canadian one because of a threatened strike by the Canadian actors union. Home Brew (a sequel to 1983's Strange Brew) which costars Dan Aykroyd, is one of about 25 U.S. productions that could be affected by a strike of the 14,000-member Alliance of Canadian Cinema Television and Radio Artists. ACTRA is demanding pay equity with U.S. performers.

Seventeen years after they appeared in movies for the first time as the Canadian good old boys, the McKenzie Brothers, in Strange Brew, Dave Thomas and Rick Moranis have secured financing for a sequel, to be called Home Brew, the Toronto Star reported today (Tuesday). "It's almost appropriately lame for the McKenzie brothers to wait 17 years to do a sequel," Thomas told the newspaper. He said that Paul Flaherty (Clifford) is set to direct and that Dan Aykroyd is close to signing a deal to costar. (The film will be released under the banner of Thomas's production company, Maple Palm Productions.)
