Glenn's Journal for 10-11-02 - Brugge Friday morning and the day was sunny but with the wind chill a little brisk. Erin was still feeling warn down form the head cold so today would be an easy day. Erin would also like a nap today (to help get over the cold) so moving to a double room was the option we chose. Breakfast was served from 9-10 am every morning and included bread (1 toaster), cheese, butter, jam, and all the coffee or tea you could drink. I had 6 pieces of toast while Erin had a few with a couple of cups of tea. During breakfast we met another couple from the U.S. (Alex and Mindy) that were staying in a double next door. We shared travel stories with them during and well after breakfast. After breakfast we relocated to our double room which was next door but still associated with Hotel Passage. We were on the third floor which seemed like a converted attic with four rooms (rooms each had a sink) and 1 bathroom to share. Alex and Mindy were in the room directly below us. After dropping our bags off in our room we quickly took out into town. Brugge is a wonderfully small town that gives you that warm safe feeling while walking around. The town is very clean with plenty of bikes and horse drawn carriages travelling throughout the city. We walked around to the market center, by a few churches and belfry, and along the water ways before stopping for lunch. After lunch we returned to the room so Erin could take a nap. Well, we both took naps for a while. When I awoke I went back out for a few hours to look around town and locate the internet cafe. My goal was to see if I could upload pictures and journals at this cafe as we have not had any luck with this effort during the initial 4 weeks of our trip. We have plenty to upload ad we would like our camera cards to be empty before we get to Africa. I found the Coffee Internet cafe and sure enough, LUCK!!! I finally could upload photos and did so to a hard drive. I did not try the journals before I left to return to our room. Upon my return I let Erin sleep a little longer while I did some crosswords. I was at least happy about the success I had at the internet cafe. I also knew that we would have to spend some time their resizing and uploading photos, and uploading journals. Erin awoke around 8:00 pm after a much needed sleep and more than ready for dinner. We took out in search of dinner and after walking around for an hour around the square we found "The Gulden Spuur" which had a menu of the day. The menu of the day seemed to real to believe but you don't know until you ask, or in this case try. The menu included crab cocktail, steak or salmon, and desert for only 12,50 Euro per person. We both enjoyed the meal very much along with some wine. After dinner we returned to our room so Erin could take some Nyquil before retiring for the night. I planned on staying up and reading. I hoped Erin would feel better in the morning. |
