Glenn's Journal for 10-12-02 - Brugge Saturday morning and it is dreary and very rainy this morning. We had put off a bike tour for today but would wait and see if it clears up before making up our mind. Alex and Mindy had also waited until today to go on the bike tour but were disappointed by the rain. We ran into Alex at breakfast and shared our plans for the day before taking out. Our first stop was to be the internet cafe where we would try and get as much work done before the 1:00 pm bike tour. Well, once we got into resizing and uploading photos and uploading journals (which I had to convert into word files manually) the time had passed and it was after 2:00 pm. We even had lunch while working at the computers. We were pleased with what we had accomplished while we were here. We were now ready for the "EasyEverything" internet cafe in Amsterdam where we could build webpages at a much cheaper rate. After the internet cafe the weather had not improved but we were determined to make the best of it. We headed out of town towards the windmills located on the edge of town. Along the way we found a hairdresser and as we both needed haircuts we got them. It was a good day to be inside so why not haircuts. After our cuts we continued walking, in the rain, until we found the windmills. We were not terribly impressed by these windmills but hoped that there would be others. We then headed back into town, window shopping along the way, before finally making our way back to our hotel. We dropped our daypack off and ran into Alex and Mindy, whom we checked to see if they were interested in dinner. They had already bought dinner and passed on our invitation. We walked back to the restaurant from last night to check the new "menu of the day". The menu was the same so w returned to the Passage restaurant for dinner. Tonight I had the chicken stew (that Erin raved about from Thursday night) and Erin had the fish stew. We ended up chatting with the couple sitting next to us (Dara and Chris) who are living in Germany (she being in the military). We had great conversation and chatted about all kinds of things including the fact that Dara was 14 weeks pregnant and they were both very excited about it. We spent almost 2 hours at dinner mostly enjoying the conversation. We even took time to have a Belgian waffle with vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup for dessert. After dinner we shared e-mail information and told them that we look forward to hearing from them soon. Dinner ended around 10:30pm, which we then called it a night. Tomorrow was an open decision day of what to do. If the weather improved then we would stay in Brugge one more day for the bike tour, and if it was still raining then we would continue on to Amsterdam. Either way we wanted to be at breakfast around 9:00am. |
