Safe Call Designate Guidelines

The following is a set of guidelines I suggest to be used when acting as a safe call for someone. It is both an honor and a responsibility not to be taken lightly. You could be the very life line for this individual. I would also mention that if you do not adopt these guidelines. that what ever ones you do, stick to them and allow no exception or variance.

1.) Get both Persons Names, Addresses and Phone Numbers

2.) If Possible a Picture of both parties

3.) If possible both Drivers license Numbers

4.) Places of employment

5.) How they will arrive, Where they will meet, where they are going. A complete itinerary with a phone number you can call back to verify everything is ok.

6.) Preset times for them to call in Minimum of two times the first day and I would suggest twice each day after that at different times. I also suggest that the safe call designate, calls back to the Phone number to make sure they are where they are supposed to be.

7.) Set code words or phrases i.e. "the dog is doing ok" everything is good. "they say the dog is sick?" things are not going well. "take the dog to the vet" I need help get me out of here ASAP! This could be what ever the person requesting the safe call and the safe call designate set up.

8.) If the safe call requester needs assistance CALL 911 DO NOT attempt to rescue someone by your self! If possible meet both the safe call requester and their prospective date/partner in a group setting i.e... a public restaurant for coffee with two or more people that YOU know. This way you can give an accurate description if needed. ( Never put yourself in danger or attempt to meet someone alone!.)

9.) Insist that the safe call requester follows every rule you set. Inform them that if they do in fact deviate from the itinerary you will inform the local authorities immediately. Insist that all time lines be met.

10.) You are the safe call person. Consider your own safety first! Never place your self in danger way or attempt a rescue alone. If you feel the need to contact local authorities do so immediately. If your safe call requester does not follow through, assume the worst call the local authorities. Take the responsibility to heart you could be someone's life line.

11.) Do not accept a safe call request if you do not feel comfortable about it or they do not wish to conform to the rules.

12.) Call and verify employment, check phone listings for phone numbers given and look up the addresses. If you do not know how ask someone that does it is quite easy to verify this information.

As a safe call you do not have to give out personal information you do not feel comfortable about giving. Simple fact if it does not feel right DON'T DO IT!

The initial contact for a safe call request is made to a person on the list via the email provided by the safe call. All correspondence is via email unless the safe call designate wishes to use phone access. I suggest that should be left up to each individual for their preferences. REMEMBER your safety comes first and take no excuses from your safe call requester.
