February 6-9 |
February 6, 2002 1:00 pm The management committee continues to spread lies and innuendo to the rest of the management employees. At a meeting of management personnel at 10:30 am today they “explained” their position by using outdated proposals! They also were saying that they have met the National Pattern while the Union was in the process of faxing them a REJECTION LETTER. They still refuse to consider any of our local issues despite the fact that they continue to chisel on the National Pattern (insurance). Word from our sister local in Torrance, CA. is that they have reached a tentative agreement with the company on a contract…that makes three of the four PACE locals in ExxonMobil reaching a tentative agreement. Torrance, as well as Beaumont and Chalmette, received the National Pattern, as well some substantial local gains. Apparently, our local management does not consider us to be as valuable to this refinery as the other refineries view their Union employees. |
February 6, 2002 5:00 pm Shortly after 3:00 pm, the Union received a fax from the company preceded by a phone call by the plant manager informing us of a “best and final offer”. The company has demanded that we respond by 8:00 am Thursday, February 7, 2002. We believe that this offer contains language that may not pass International approval. We made the company aware of this sticking point earlier today. International is researching the same language from the earlier offer about which they have reservations. One portion of their proposal would enable them to man this refinery entirely by non-regular employees. It is important that we maintain our resolve as we work through this bargaining process (or lack there of). |
Special Meeting Tonight 5:45 pm at PACE Union Hall |
This is an informational meeting concerning the issues remaining on the bargaining table. Every question will be answered until there are no more questions. If you are unable to make this meeting we are available, as always. |
February 8, 2002 The Union has been trying to get the company to meet with us for the past two days. They claim the only time they can meet is on Monday. Apparently, they do not take these negotiations seriously. At 4:00 pm the Union rescinded the 24-hour rolling extension. Unless an agreement can be reached, the pickets will go up on Saturday at 4:00 pm. The company is now willing to meet tomorrow morning. We hope they come to the table willing to negotiate a fair settlement. For those of you that are scheduled to work tomorrow, work safe and be assured you will be the first to know if there are any change in plans. |
February 7th, 2002 |
February 9, 2002 We met with the company this morning and received another offer. The Committee has agreed to take this offer to a vote by the membership. There will be a special meeting to discuss the changes in the offer on Tuesday, February 12th at 5:45 pm at the Union Hall. A vote will be held on Wednesday to accept or reject the offer. More info to follow. |
