The Laboratory Pakistan Field Level II Hospital 1 has earned the reputation of the best available Laboratory diagnostic facility in entire Liberia due to its well planned organization and inexorable professional work during the mission. The department remained instrumental not only in assisting the clinical departments of the hospital in spirited execution of their duties but also played vital role in the general health upkeep of the contingent with particular emphasis on potable water provision.

Classified Pathologist: Major Abid Mahmood; born on 2 January 1963 at Bahawalpur. He is a graduate of Army Medical College, Rawalpindi in 1985. He got commission in Pak Army on 18 December 1985 and rendering his services in his present rank since 18 December 1991. He has done his FCPS in microbiology from College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan in 1995. He also achieved well deserved promotion to the Rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 2004; a meritorious feat during this UN mission.

Capabilities

a. Basic diagnostic work up in the fields of haematology, chemical pathology and microbiology.

b. Accurate multiple haematology parameters using automated haematology analyzer.

c. Quick and accurate/precise blood chemistry analysis using a semi-automated chemistry analyzer.

d. Advanced microbiology diagnostic facility for culture of specimens of all kinds and antibiotic susceptibility testing.

e. Serological tests for common bacterial diseases

f. Serological tests for common viral diseases

g. Water microbiology using the most advanced technique

h. Blood transfusion facility with blood bank having storage capacity of 50 units.
