Surgical Team of the hospital has been
instrumental to the reverence achieved by the hospital consequent to its
zealous desire of treating bleeding humanity in Liberia, even at the cost of
risking their own lives.
Classified Surgical Specialist: Major
Mannan Masud; born on 8 December 1966 at Lahore. He is a graduate of Army
Medical College, Rawalpindi in 1989. He got commission in Pak Army on 12
December 1989 and rendering his services in his present rank since 12
December 1995. He has done his FCPS in General Surgery in 2000 from College
of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan. He excelled his qualification
further with FRCS in General Surgery in 2002 from Royal College of
Physicians and Surgeons, Glasgow United Kingdom.
Classified Surgical Specialist: Major
Ahmad Ali Khan; born on 31 January 1966 at Multan. He is graduate of Nishtar
Medical College Multan in 1988. He got commission in Pak Army on 07 October
1990 and rendering his services in his present rank since 7 October 1996. He
has done his FCPS in General Surgery in 2000 from College of Physicians and
Surgeons of Pakistan.
Capabilities of Surgical Team
a. Round the clock
surgical cover to the UNMIL and Civil clientele with the capability of
performing all types of major life and limb saving emergency surgical
procedures.
b. Performing major
operations in fields of Orthopedics, Urology, Vascular, Thoracic, in
addition to General Surgery.
c. Performing 8-10
elective surgical procedures in two elective surgery lists per week.
d. It performed 5-10
minor surgery cases daily under monitored local anaesthesia in Trauma center
and civilian Operation Theatre.
e. Functioning a
Surgical Out Patient Clinic on daily basis to provide consultation and
preoperative work up to UNMIL troops, UN employees and civilian population.
f. Providing
surgical cover to the referral cases from DDRR who were old war victims due
to bullet injuries and bomb blast injuries. They were provided surgical care
along with physiotherapy and rehabilitation.
3. Spectrum of
Surgical Cases A large variety of both emergency and elective surgical cases
were successfully managed in Pakistan Field Level II Hospital 1during the
year.
a. Trauma Cases The
whole spectrum of Blunt and Penetrating injuries causing hemorrhagic shock
were treated in main Operation Theatre, Trauma Centre and Intensive
Treatment Centre.
War Injuries : War
Injuries included high velocity bullet injuries, shrapnel injuries due to
mortar shells and bomb blasts, penetrating stab wounds to neck, chest,
abdomen, groin and limbs.
Road Traffic
Accidents: A large number of road traffic accident cases were treated round
the year in this hospital. They included head injuries, maxillofacial
injuries, chest trauma, fractures of lumbo-sacral spine with spinal shock
and paraplegia, fractures of long bones including fracture dislocations of
hip joint, fractures of pelvis, shaft of femur and tibia, variety of
fractures of humerus, radius and ulna.
b. Surgical
Emergencies It included cases of acute appendicitis, acute cholecystitis,
acute intestinal obstruction, haematemesis, haematurea, acute urinary
retention, ectopic pregnancies, post partum haemorrhage and menorrhagia.
c. Elective Surgical
Cases It included variety of inguinal hernias, varicose veins, fistula in
Ano, Haemorrhoides, perianal diseases, lipomas, sebaceous cysts etc.
Education and Training An extensive
training course was run by the surgeons to update the knowledge and skills
of the army nursing staff and civil paramedics in quality care management of
the causalities. They were trained in CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation),
emergency first aid and trauma management along with the routine indoor care
of the surgical patients
