January 21, 1998
I had an appointment today with a Social Security attorney. I'd taken all of the copies
of letters and forms I'd filled out thus far with me. I have a period between Dec. of
1989, and Dec. of 1993 that isn't well documented as to my disability. What I need
to do now is to find enough evidence to prove I was still disabled at that time.
I need to have my doctor go into great detail, stating exactly what I could and
couldn't do at that time. If you are going through this process yourself, it's imperative
that your doctor document everything you can and can't do. The more
explicit he can be in his notes, the better off you'll be. Once the appeal is denied,
then will be my chance to have a hearing. I asked my attorney today what my
chance of winning the appeal would be, he said normally it's the same decision
as when you first apply. If you've been denied by the SSA the first time, chances
are your appeal will be denied as well. Oh great (groan).
