Princess is a two year old "Standard American Eskimo" also known as "The Dog Beautiful". Her father is the handsome Sierra's Obe One Kenobe and her mother is Snow White Nakita. Two years ago we called up on an ad in the newspaper for American Eskimo puppies. I knew when we arrived that this was the pet for us. She looked like a white teddy bear with deep brown eyes, a pink tongue and round belly, and she was sooooo soft to touch. Her nose was completely black {which is preferred according to the UKC/AKC Standards) but I swear she has rubbed it raw since! Well, not raw but slightly pink.
She was very alert & fiesty but not hyper active and she seemed to take to us too. We couldn't resist!! So after a questions and answer period we drove off with her in our car and headed back home. She loved a car ride even back then.
She was so cuddly that I couldn't bring myself to put her in a Cage or crate, so she slept right between me and hubby. After a few nights of waking to a little "puddle" we changed our minds and she began sleeping in a padded crate. It didn't take her long to get potty trained, so that was the end of the crate. We bought her a nice huge "pillow type" bed to sleep on... but she still prefers to hop in bed with us. We let her sometimes.
She learned how to "sit" "shake" "lay down" "roll over" "stay" and "come" within 2 weeks, but I couldn't get her to "heel" for anything... I'm still not sure what I was doing wrong or why she wouldn't. I just keep trying. We have a huge fenced in yard for her to romp around in...so taking walks wasn't needed for excerise, and I kind of gave up on the "heel" command for awhile.
She's been a joy to have around and we love her so much! She's a part of our family now and wouldn't have it any other way. She does have a "bratty side" though... like barking at ANYTHING that moves, including the WIND! Lord help us if a game show comes on TV... any "ding" sounds at all is enough for her to initiate the neighborhood choir. We keep a muzzle around for really bad days though sometimes she makes me feel mean to have her wear it... I'm hoping that she will catch on soon and learn what QUIET means!
This year a handsome/gentle male eskie was her Christmas present... We named him Luke. She was really happy to gain a playmate. At first she had a hard time sharing her toys but she got over that and they play together just fine. They are a blast to watch.
