A Vision
I saw a glimmering vision,
It took my breath away
T'was the Silhouette of a Shepherd
More regal than words can say

The beams of light they danced
On a coat of endless black
A Vision of perfection
Atop an iron back

He stood there like a statue
For all the world to see
What a vision of perfection
The German Shepherd can be

The look of a noble prince
Lord of all he surveys
Confident in himself
Eyes fixed in aristocratic gaze

Never shall I forget
The vision I saw that day
Of the mighty Shepherd
Who took my breath away

Tribute To A German Shepherd Dog
Dear friend, you know as time goes by
your memory still draws nigh
I feel the whisper of your touch,
sometimes I hear you sigh.
I feel the cold-wet of your nose
as you brush against my hand
to let me know, however small,
I'm a part of that plan.
Your spirit - it still dwells with me
here on this great star,
although you've followed the rainbow
you haven't gone that far.

You're now above the thunder,
the lightning the rain.
I believe I see you smiling,
you're happy once again.
As there you wait so patiently
beside that special gate
your body whole and healthy
noble head aloft - so high with state.
Anticipating every form you see,
albeit far away,
to be the ones you left behind,
could it be them -- this very day?

Dear friend, just know you're missed
but only for a time
each memory that you gave to me,
comes quickly to my mind,
I thank you for your fearless love
to keep me from harm's way.
Each rainbow that I see
will remind me of that day
for at the end of that spectrum,
what's waiting there for me,
is a "loyal" friend I'll never forget,
a beautiful GSD.

"Some animals, like men, leave a trail of glory behind them.
They give their spirit to the place where they have lived,
and remain forever apart of the rocks and streams and the wind and sky."

~ Marguerite Henry ~

Music: "Old Shep"
(Words & Music by Foley - Westpar)
When I was a lad
And old Shep was a pup
Over hills and meadows we'd stray
Just a boy and his dog
We were both full of fun
We grew up together that way

I remember the time at the old swimmin' hold
When I would have drowned beyond doubt
But old Shep was right there
To the rescue he came
He jumped in and then pulled me out

As the years fast did roll
Old Shep he grew old
His eyes were fast growing dim
And one day the doctor looked at me and said
I can do no more for him Jim
With hands that were trembling
I picked up my gun
And aimed it at Shep's faithful head
I just couldn't do it
I wanted to run
I wish they would shoot me instead

He came to my side
And looked up at me
And laid his old head on my knee
I had struck the best friend that a man ever had
I cried so I scarcely could see

Old Shep he has gone
Where the good doggies go
And no more with old Shep will I roam
But if dogs have a heaven
There's one thing I know
Old Shep has a wonderful home
The First Shepherd's Dog
I wish someone had given Jesus a Shepherd
As loyal and loving as mine
To sleep by his manger and gaze in His eyes
And adore Him for being divine.
As our Lord grew to manhood, his faithful dog
Would have followed Him all through the day
While He preached to the crowds and made the sick well
And knelt in the garden to pray.
It is sad to remember that Christ went away
To face death alone and apart
With no tender dog following close behind
To comfort its Master's heart.
And when Jesus rose on that Easter morn
How happy He would have been
As his dog kissed His hands and barked its delight
For the One who died for all men.
Well, the Lord has a shepherd now, I just sent him mine
The old pal so dear to me
And I smile through my tears on this first day alone
Knowing they're in eternity.

Whispering Wind
There's a wind that comes to haunt me
it chills me to the core,
a whispering wind ,a gentle wind
that talks straight to my soul.
There's a wind that comes to haunt me
it takes me back in time
and shares with me dear memories
of another life of mine.
There's a wind that comes to haunt me
it fills my heart with joy
as once again I feel the love that's
deep down in my soul.
