Fourth graders are diving into Spreadsheets. Based on their Word Processing progress, I decided that our group of fourth graders are ready to take on Spreadsheets!!
So far I'm very impressed with how well they learned the Spreadsheet vocabulary. They should be able to show you on Excel what a row, column, cell, and active cell is. They can tell you the cell address of a cell and be able to answer basic questions based on looking at spreadsheet data.
Between this week and next week the fourth graders will start a Shopping Spree project. Each student has been given an imaginary $1000.00 shopping spree. They are to go online and try to spend between $995.00 and $1000.00. If they manage to spend exactly $1000.00, they will receive extra credit. Let the students fill you in on the rest of the instructions.
So far this project will be an in school project, however based on the Internet speed, some students may want to work on the project at home.
They will fill in their data into this online, interactive spreadsheet web site.

Internet Vocabulary Advertisements: Students will creatively display one of the internet vocabulary words, showing 1. they understand the definition and 2. they can express its meaning creatively using Microsoft Office Word. Keyboarding Progress Report: Students will learn, review, and practice the proper keyboarding technique focusing on accuracy and speed. File Management Students will learn to efficiently create, locate, name, and organize folders and files. This seems like an insignificant project, but it's important for students to learn the most efficient way to manage their files and folders. As they start using computers more often and for a wider variety of tasks they will benefit from efficiency.
