Though i was one year from even being born when her first album came out, i have recently rediscovered cyndi lauper. A lot of people know her most popular song "girls just wanna have fun" but cyndi's done so much more than that and she's so much more talented than today's pop stars. even today, going into her 48th year she's doing what she loves best: singing. This is a little hole-in-the-wall tribute to my favourite 80's queen and the only true pop diva i can honestly say i like. |
Born: June 22nd, 1953 in Brooklyn, New York |
Full Name: Cynthia Ann Stephanie Lauper Thornton |
Went To School: Richmond Hill HS, along with 3 others |
Some cool facts: 1977- Cyndi does serious damage to her vocal chords and is left virtually voiceless She's So Unusual has sold over 4.5 million copies in the U.S. alone Cyndi's voice amplitude is 2 octaves larger than the average person's |
for me cyndi gives so much inspiration with her words and her songs. some people may write her off as a superficial 80's fad but they should just give her a chance. listen to her empowering words that help and inspire people like me and you every day. i know cyndi and her music has helped me in so many ways. even tho i've never even met her, i want to thank her for everything she does, she's some peice of work :) |
this one's my favourite.... "The truth is, you can't stamp out individuality- there's too many of us." |
"People used to throw rocks at me for my clothes. Now they wanna know where I buy them. Doesn't that seem weird to you?" |
"I want to have my own personal sound, not a copy, take a little from everything and make my own recipe. But then again, I don't cook so good, so forget that." |
"I guess I'm just a natural irritant. It's a spare time sort of thing." |
"If people can't categorize you, if they see something different, then they consider it weird. I was a weirdo." |
"You have to remember- no matter what you're told- that God loves all the flowers, even the wild ones that grow by the side of the highway." |
Personally, i think True Colours is the most empowering song Cyndi has ever done. i didn't realise it's full effect until i read the lyrics and now i think it's just awesome. Though i know Cyndi didn't write the song, she put the heart into it with her voice. It just wouldn't be the same by any other artist. Here's the lyrics <------- |
You with the sad eyes Don't be discouraged Oh I realize It's hard to take courage In a world full of people You can lose sight of it all And the darkness inside you Can make you feel so small But I see your true colors Shining through I see your true colors And that's why I love you So don't be afraid to let them show Your true colors True colors are beautiful, Like a rainbow Show me a smile then, Don't be unhappy, can't remember When I last saw you laughing If this world makes you crazy And you've taken all you can bear You call me up Because you know I'll be there And I'll see your true colors Shining through I see your true colors And that's why I love you So don't be afraid to let them show Your true colors True colors are beautiful, Like a rainbow |

not convinced? just read some of the words that have come straight from cyndi's mouth. she's witty, honest and thoughtful, spouting inspiration and wisdom that appeals to everyone. she's not some britney spears flouting her way to the top...cyndi worked for where she is today, harder than any artist i know of. she overcame dirversity and kept her own style, despite what the world thought. and now she has this little "ha ha, lookit me now" attitude, mixed with her own wonderful dare-to-be-different personality. |
