THE EDGEFEST 2001 REVIEW well, it's over!...and it rocked!! believe me, i was there! the whole day started off with a three hour drive in holiday weekend traffic from my house in Burlington to Molson Park in Barrie with my two best friends. the line to get in was huge, it was a sold out show. after braving the security guards, pat downs and bag searches we headed to the main stage. we waited an hour and a half for the openers, thinking it would be gob or finger eleven. nope, project wyze opened and MAN they stunk up the joint! we skipped bif naked to eat $3 pieces of pizza and drink water we smuggled in. later in the day we saw JOYDROP who ROCKED!! they started off the set with some songs off of METASEXUAL including ALL TOO WELL and OVER + UNDER. they also played two new songs off of their new cd: SOMETIMES WANNA DIE and AMERICAN DREAM GIRL. both songs are awesome! they finished with a kick-ass version of BEAUTIFUL. the new cd, VIBERATE is available july 24 in Canada. you can download SOMETIMES WANNA DIE and listen to the whole cd by clicking HERE. i got a great joydrop t-shirt (black with a red radio logo from the new cd). back on the main stage GOB played one of it's best sets and me and my friends were front and centre in the mosh pit. they played lots of old and new tracks from THE WORLD ACCORDING TO GOB including BEEN SO LONG, I HEAR YOU CALLING and FOR THE MOMENT which they closed with. the best pit of the day went to FINGER ELEVEN, it was nuts!!! i got separated from my friends almost right away and got pushed to the back of the pit where i had to fend for myself beneath crowd surfer after crowd surfer and insane crushes of FINGER ELEVEN fans. by 8pm the temperature was into single digits and we had to huddle almost under a dumpster for warmth (which was quite hilarious, as i'm sure u can imagine!). we waited 2 hours through a horrendous BIG WRECK set and a good TEA PARTY one, but i don't enjoy them so...after 10pm we waited in an expectant and freezing crowd for the last act and headliners TOOL. we stuck around for one song and then had to leave cuz we were freaking freezing our asses off!! from the gates we heard SCHISM and then booted it for the warmth of our heated car, reeking of pot and other "smoke-like smells". ;). even despite the temperature, the day was awesome and i know i'll never ever forget it! :) |

MY REVIEW OF THE APRIL 11TH 2002 NO DOUBT AT TORONTO SHOW I can honestly say that this show was the best i have ever been to, of any band. the entire experience was just amazing! so after an hour long train ride into toronto me, my sister and her friend were standing in line for NO DOUBT at about 6pm. i was a bit pissed off cuz i wanted to arrive much earlier and get a kick ass spot. but, alas, here we were. we got in pretty quick, and i marvelled at all the teeny boppers that were there. where were my punk brothers and sisters at? i didnt enter the crowd until half way thru an ok set by the faint, as i was stuck on the underage side of the fence surrounding the bar area, waiting for my sister and her friend to finish their beers (it sucks to be under 19 haha). i was surprised the crowd wasnt really getting into the music, i wanted to mosh! i quickly decided i needed to get front and centre and real fast. so when two big, rude guys started pushing their way to the front, i grabbed my sister and we followed them, ignoring the "BITCH!" comments i got as i plowed my way thru angry little 12 year olds. please, it's my favourite band, i don't really care who i step on or who i push out of the way (dont think im a bitch, you know you'd have done the same thing). the result was that i ended up a little off to the left of centre, about ten deep back which was awesome! i had wanted to get closer, but considering those i was with were not experienced moshers i had to stick where i was. the only thing i thought was bad about the show, was how rude and unfriendly the crowd was (heh, this from the person who cut thru all those kids to get to the front...). ususally i make friends at concerts and people are really cool but the crowd where i was was not so nice. i was a little disappointed until around 930 the familiar chords of "hella good" hit my ears. the reaction of the crowd was immediate and explosive. all my fears that the pit would be crappy were completely put to rest as we all pogoed our little hearts out and nearly got crushed by the squish. i was suprised at the sudden energy, i havent been in a pit that crazy since i saw Finger Eleven. anyways, check the pics out to see what the band looked like. these aren't my pics, i got them off the toronto no doubt fan club site, so thanks to whoever's they are! :) ok, so after an incrediably energenic "hella good" they jumped right into "sunday morning" and never stopped rockin for at least 2 hours! my personal highlight was when Gwen tried to climb up on an amp during "Just a Girl" and put her hand right in a big hock of Tony's spit! she's like, "ew! i just put my hand in a loogie!" hahaha. they came back for an encore of "rock steady", "spiderwebs" and "total hate". when "total hate" came on everyone went nuts, regardless if they knew the song or not. the one thing that disappointed me about the night was that nxd didn't pull anybody up on stage, specifically they didnt pull ME up on stage haha :) i could see gwen asking ppl but they just kept saying no. who the hell would say no? woo. after the show i bought the brown tour tshirt and the new poster, which both rock! this was the best night of my life and i can't wait till they come back! :)))) |
