From the exodus out of Egypt led by Moses to the announcement of the coming kingdom by John the Baptist is called the dispensation of "Law" ( Ex.12:31-38; Mt.3:1-3; Lk.16:16 ) .

It is so-called because of the Covenant or Contract Agreement between God and Israel mediated by Moses.
(a)

The "Law" Covenant
became a part of the religious and political system in God's Earthly Kingdom.
It was "
added because of transgressions ('so that every mouth may be silenced [for it fully reveals what God considers right and wrong or sin, therefore]..the whole world may be held accountable to God'~ Rom.3:19-20;4:15;5:13) until the Seed to whom the promise referred had come...Now that faith has come, we are no longer under the supervision of the Law." (Lk.16:16; Gal.3:10-25; Col.2:14-17; Heb.8:5; 9:1-10;10:1~Note: Believers in all previous dispensations looked forward to the cross in the same sense we look back to it. Gal.3:8; Heb.4:2; 11:1-40)

Note: We started the "Times of the Gentiles" with Egypt instead of Babylon for it (and Assyria) qualify(having persecuted Israel before Babylon and much longer) and in harmony with John's vision of the "Times of the Gentiles". Daniel saw the Kingdoms to oppress Israel from his day forward, so naturally could not predict Egypt and Assyria which were in the past by the time he lived( Dan.2). John saw the whole length of the "Times of the Gentiles" in order to identify the 8th Kingdom that will complete the "Times of the Gentiles"( Mt.24-25;Lk.21:24;Rev.19:11-21;Rev.11:1-2;Rev.17:8-17.(c)
