Therefore, the 111 years of servitude(points C,E,I,K,P,U)and the 3 years of confusion under Abimelech(point M) with perhaps the 10 years under Elon(point S) were excluded.(40+480+84=603-111-3-10=480) ~For Solomon's history see 1Ki.1:10-11:43~ 1Chr.28:5-29:28~ 2Chr.1:1-9:31 Note: With the death of Solomon, around 1018 B.C.E.,the Kingdom was divided ( 1Ki.12). ( 2Ki.2) H) Jehoram:8 years ( 2Ki.8:16-17)~~ B.C.E. date:922-914 I) Ahaziah:1 year ( 2KI.8:25-26)~~B.C.E. date:914-913 J) Athaliah:6 years ( 2Ki.11:3)~~B.C.E. date:913-906 K)Joash:40 years( 2Ki.12:1)~~B.C.E. date:906-867 L) Amaziah:29 years ( 2KI.14:1-2)~~B.C.E. date:867-838 M) Azariah or Uzziah:52 years ( 2Ki.15:1-2 cp. 2Ki.15:13)~~ B.C.E. date:838-786 N) Jotham:16 years ( 2Ki.15:33)~~B.C.E. date:786-770 ~Five years before the start of Jotham's reign, King Pekah's reign over the northern Kingdom consisting of the 10 tribes called Israel came to an end( 2Ki.15:30). It was during King Pekah's reign when the King of Assyria began to deport Israel(the 10 tribes of the northern part of the Kingdom) 2Ki.15:27-29. 0) Ahaz:16 years ( 2Ki.16:1-2)~~B.C.E. date:770-754 ~In the 12th year of King Ahaz, around 758 B.C.E., God once again allowed Assyria to attack the 10 tribes Israel because their ruler Hoshea did evil in the eyes of the Lord ( 2Ki.17:1-2). King Hoshea was paying tribute money to Assyria (as did King Menahem when Assyria first invaded Israel~ 2Ki.15:13-20) but decided to rebel and was Discovered( 2Ki.17:3-4). P)Hezekiah:29 years ( 2Ki.18:1-2)~~ B.C.E. date:754-725 ~In the 6th year of King Hezekiah's reign, around 748 B.C.E.,the majority from the 10 tribes of Israel were taken captive to Assyria( 2Ki.18:9-12). The Assyrian attack leading to the deportation lasted 3 years( 2Ki.17:5-6). All this took place because of sin, such as: worshipping other gods( 2Ki.17:7); following and making up pagan practices( 2Ki.17:8); building high places, meaning places of worship( 2Ki.17:9); and other wicked things( 2Ki.17:16-17 ) in spite of the Lord's warnings through His prophets and seers( 2Ki.17:11-13).Their refusal to repent made them worthless to the Lord( 2Ki.17:14-15). The deportation ended the 10 tribes 270 years of independence. Israel was far worse than Judah so were the first to go ( 2Ki.17:18-23). The King of Assyria resettles the land( 2Ki.17:24)The new settlers did not worship the Lord (claiming ignorance 2Ki.17:26)resulting in death by lions( 2Ki.17:25).The Assyrian King remedies their claim by sending Jewish priest( 2Ki.17:27-28)who proves their claim shallow at best( 2Ki.17:29-31). They began to mix faiths in spite of incompatibility( 2Ki.17:32-41).They adopted the Torah, the first five books of the Hebrew Bible,as their Scripture and intermarried with the remaining Jews. People with this mixed ancestry and mixed religion came to be called Samaritans. The returning exiles, around 544 B.C.E.,refused their help in re-building Jerusalem and the Temple. Eventually, the Samaritan's built a temple of their own on Mt.Gerzim(Jos.Ant.xi,8-2)and taught the Messiah would be no greater than Moses; would appear 6000 years after creation; would live 110 years and would lead men to the true faith. The Jews would not even pass through Samaria to go to Galilee(Jos.Ant.xx,6-1).This method of avoidance in dealing with the Samaritan's is not the Christian way( Mt.5:43-48~ Lk.10:25-37~ Jn.4:7-42). Q) Mannasseh:55 years ( 2Ki.21:1)~~B.C.E. date:725-670 R) Ammon:2 years ( 2KI.21:19)~~B.C.E. date:670-668 S)Josiah:31 years ( 2Ki.22:1)~~B.C.E. date:668-637 T) Jehoahaz:3 months( 2Ki.23:31-33)~~B.C.E. date:637-637 U) Jehoiakim:11 years ( 2Ki.23:36)~~ B.C.E. date:637-626 ~In the 3rd year of his reign, around 634 B.C.E., The King of Babylon,Nebuchadnezzar besieged Jerusalem( Dan.1:1).The spoils and men(including Daniel) were taken back to Babylon( Dan.1:1-21)and Jehoiakim was made a puppet ruler( 2Ki.24:1).In the 4th year of Jehoiakim's reign(Nebuchadnezzar now King for one year)Jeremiah foretold the complete destruction of their(and surrounding)land and their captivity in Babylon for 70 years ( Jer.25:1-11). In the 2nd year of Nebuchadnezzar's reign, around 632 B.C.E.,he had a troubling dream of an "enormous, dazzling statue, awesome in appearance." The dream metaphorically pictured Israel's oppressors from Daniel's day until the eternal future of the world when God will reign forever ( Dan.2). V) Jehoiachin:3 months( 2Ki.24:6-16)~~B.C.E. date:626-626 W) Zedekiah:11 years ( 2Ki.24:18)~~ B.C.E. date:626-615 ~In the 11th of his reign over Judah, around 615 B.C.E.,they were taken captive to Babylon( 2Ki.25). The complete destruction of Jerusalem and the beginning of the 70 years as foretold by Jeremiah 18 years earlier was now fully realized. 4. A) Babylonian captivity:70 years ( Jer.25:11-12; 29:10~fulfilled)~~B.C.E. date:615-545 B) Darius the Mede:1 year( Dan.5:31; 8:3, 20~ 9:1-2)~~B.C.E. date:545-544 ~He took Babylon, around 545 B.C.E..Daniel realized in the first year of his reign the 70 years prophesied by Jeremiah were up. In Daniel 11:1-2, it predicted 4 more Kings that would come after him,now fulfilled, and listed below. C) Cyrus the Persian:9 years( Ezra.1:1-4; 3:8~ Isa.44:28; 45:1)~~B.C.E. date:544-535 ~The first decree to restore Jerusalem was given in the 1st year of his reign. The remnant of the 12 tribes and Levites started their return around 544 B.C.E. D) Cambyses:7 years ( Ezra.4:1-24)~~B.C.E. date:535-528 ~He is the son of Cyrus and perhaps the Ahasuerus of verse 6. E) Darius 1 :35 years ( Ezra.5:1-6:22)~~ B.C.E. date:528-493 ~In the 2nd year of his reign he confirmed the decree made by Cyrus(point C) 18 years before( Ezra.4:24). The Temple was finished in the 6th year of his reign, around 522 B.C.E., but the city was not yet restored( Ezra.6:15). F) Xerexes:21 years ~~B.C.E. date:493-472 ~He was the Persian King to "stir up everyone against the Kingdom of Greece" fulfilling Dan.11:2. ~Evidently(see point G) Jerusalem was not completed during his 21 year reign. G)Artaxerxes:20 years ( Neh.2:1-19)~~B.C.E. date:472-452 ~He actually reigned 40 years! But our trace through Kings of Medo-Persia ends in the 20th year of his reign, around 452 B.C.E..On this date,Artaxerxes gave Nehemiah the 3rd decree "to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until the Anointed One, the Ruler comes." This decree came 92 years after the first decree by Cyrus (point C)and was the decree that began the 7 sevens or 49 years for the restoration of Jerusalem"with street and a trench, but in times of trouble." ( Dan.9:25~fulfilled~ Neh.2:1-6:19). Note:The reigning years of Medo-Persian Kings(points C,D,E,F)were taken from Encyclopedia Britannica. The B.C.E. dates are independent therefore vary depending on source. 5. A) The 7 sevens or 49 years of Dan.9:25~~B.C.E. date:452-403 ~see point 4-G B) The 62 sevens or 434 years before "the Anointed One will be cut off" or crucified ( Dan.9:26)~~B.C.E. date:403-32 A.D. Note: Since John made the announcement about 3 years before the crucifixion(cp. Lk.13:7-8)we subtract them from the 483 of point A and B.(49+434=483-3=480) This would make the start of Lord Jesus ministry in A.D.29~which (according to secular history) is also the 15th year of Tiberius Caesar!( Lk.3:1).(g) |
