[Mary is on stage kneeling]

Narrator:  In the sixth month, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin's name was Mary.

[Gabriel enters, dancing around and hitting thigs with her wand]

Narrator: The angel went to her and said, Greetings, The Lord is with you.  Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. But the angel said to her,
Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God. You will give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus. He will be called the Son of God.  He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and his kingdom will never end.

Mary: How will this be?

Narrator: The angel answered,  The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the child will be called the Son of God.

Mary: I am the Lord's servant. May it be to me as you have said.

Narrator: Then the angel left her.
In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. And everyone went to his own town to register.

[Mary Joseph and the Donkey walk across the stage]

Narrator: So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth  to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was expecting a child.

[Mary and Joseph approach the inn keeper who shakes his head and holds up No Vacancy sign]

Narrator: There was no room in the inn so they stayed in the stable.  The time came for the baby to be born, and Mary gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloth and placed him in a manger.

[Mary, Joseph, the donkey and some sheep gather around the manger and Mary places Nemo in it]

[The Shepard and sheep enter]

Narrator: And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them,
Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.  This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloth and lying in a manger.
Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,

[Angels enter and stand with Gabriel]

Angels: Glory to God in the highest and good will to all people

Narrator:  Please join the angels in singing the first verse of “Hark the Herald Angels Sing” Found on page ____ of the [Bulletin/Hymnal].

Narrator: When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another,

Shepards: Let's go to Bethlehem and see what the Lord has told us about.

[Shepards walk up to Mary and kneel around the baby]

Narrator: So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them.

[Wise men, and star enter.  Star is beckoning to them.]

Narrator: Three wise men from the east came to Jerusalem and asked,

Wise Man 1: Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews?

Witch: We saw his star in the east.  [star dances around]

Wise Man 2:  and we have come to worship him.

Narrator: The star they had seen in the east went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was.

[Wise men follow star around the stage to where the others are]

Narrator: When they saw the star stop, they were overjoyed.  They saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and incense and myrrh.

[Wise men bow down before Jesus and present their gifts.]

Narrator:  Every Christmas we re-tell the story of how God came to earth to live as one of us.  The King of heaven was born in a stable and laid in a manger.
Please join us in celebrating the gift of Jesus’ birth as we sing Joy to the World.  Verses 1 and 2 are on page _____ in the [Bulletin/Hymnal].
