Healing Buddha Resources
Interested in learning more about The Healing or Medicine Buddha or, as he is called in Tibetan, Sangye Menla? There are a wide variety of resources available on the Internet and elsewhere. Below are some things I have found particularly useful. Dharma-Haven, the kind people who have allowed ReikiNet to use their Menla images, have a great deal of material on their website as well as links to other useful sites.
The Very Venerable Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche gives a very detailed elaboration of the Medicine Buddha Practice in the June and September 2000 issues of Shenpen Ösel Magazine. For a clear view of this important teaching visit their website. Dr. James Sacamano has prepared an extremely useful 3 tape set which is available at Medicine Buddha Net. This is a real jewel as Dr. Sacamano explains the Practice very carefully and with great love. It will put your feet firmly on the right path. One measure of the value of this set is that it is used by several other organizations as a prerequisite for their own Menla training and empowerments (at least from what I've seen on the Internet). The set includes the following:
Want something with an academic focus? Try Raoul Birnbaum's classic "The Healing Buddha" now in a revised new edition published by Shambhala Press. This is a scholarly analysis of texts and the development of the Medicine Buddha practice in Buddhism. Finally to round out the list, Lama Thubten Zopa Rinpoche's "The Healing Buddha" available from Wisdom Publications. |
