Spiralling metal--one of my favourite metallics

Many fractals feature spirals, repeating themselves in a myriad colours to infinity. An emblem of my country is the silver fern which unfolds its fronds from tight spirals. I made these spiral fractals for pleasure. They are abstracts with no particular meaning that I am aware of.

This is one of those simple spirals that take hours of computer time to calculate. Only a few  years ago, computer time, even in universities, was allocated strictly by the hour, and there was always a queue. A calculation like this would have been impossible.

Many spirals are achingly beautiful, but beautiful spirals are not really part of my portfolio. Other artists make them much better than I do. This is Spiral Eyes.

Basking. I like this one too much to change it at the moment.

Spiral strike. It looks post processed, I know, but I haven't meddled with it at all.

Excesses. Another from the Ominous/Spiral eyes series. I am fascinated by the apparent decadence  shown in these two in particular. Palette has something to do with it, but is not the whole story.

For those who like dolphins, here is a Dolphin spiral

North and South. Unfolding fern fronds move anticlockwise in the Southern hemisphere and clockwise in the Northern.Water being emptied through the plug hole also has this characteristic.

Yes, I do like biue, even the mid tones and darker shades of Wedgewood.But this is my favourite of all blues. It's like the wonderful depth of the star sapphire.This fractal is a true infinity image. The deeper you zoom into its core, the more repeating patterns you find. Truly amazing.

Heart. This sweetie is made using a favourite formula--Reminder 1 in Fractal Explorer, which is the program that I use to make my light paintings. It is an entirely free program, and can be downloaded here.

The program can give you the paints and the brushes; the computer is your canvas. Just about anyone can make a pretty fractal, but the Art of Fractal is something different.

Just to give the lie to my claim that I don't do pretty, especially in spirals. Well this one is called Harmonies. I think it's probably pretty.

I don 't often use other people's spots, modified to make new images. This is an exception, and comes from his beautiful black and white Embryo spot. Thank you, Jo Trotsky of FAME..

Phantom Spiral. I like its sharp edges, and am pleased it stayed still for long enough for me to capture.

I love to make monochrome works, with metallic effects, that are NOT black and white. I play a lot with colour, trying to get the most subtle tints and shadings to produce images that are metallic in appearance, yet are far from being black and white. I hope you enjoy them. In fact, my 'monochromes' often contain more colours than the brightly coloured fractals--which I also enjoy making.
