Whether you prefer a more formal, old-fashioned country garden style, or a more modern "foliage only" garden style - there is something that will interest you at the RHS of NSW (Inc).

Why join the RHS of NSW?

Formally established in 1862, The Royal Horticultural Society of NSW Inc. was the first horticultural society founded in Australia, its precursor, The Agricultural & Horticultural Society having been formed in 1822 under the patronage of Governor Brisbane.
Affiliated and Kindred Societies in Australia and throughout the world link the RHS to a wide-ranging and prestigious horticultural community.

From the outset, the RHS has had Horticultural Judges as members. In order to standardise judging criteria, it was decided to produce a manual on judging. The first edition "The Horticultural Guide and Standard Referance Book" was produced in 1946. Second edition 1946. This was revised in 1958, 1970, 1985 and the latest, very expanded edition "Judging Standards and Guidelines for Horticultural Competitions and Exhibitions" was prepared in 2000.

A specialised book for Floral Art Jusges was produced in 1975 entitled "Floral Art Definitions and Judging Standards".

A revised edition, "Floral Art Referance ShowGuide" was printed in 1982, revised in 1986 and again in 1992. It was split into two parts "Western and Traditional Designs" in 1997 and revised in 2001. Part 2 "European Influenced Designs" was printed in 1998 and revised in 2002.

In accordance with our aim to encourage and promote standards of excellence, the RHS trains and supplies Accredited Judges to Horticultural Exhibitions and Competitions throughout NSW.

The benefits of Membership of the Society include:

+  Regular monthly meetings with specialist speakers, demonstrations, floral and general competitions and displays.
+The meetings offer members the opportunity to meet fellow gardening enthusiasts in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.
+An informative quarterly journal Better Gardening in NSW is included in the annual membership fee. It includes information on our Floral Art Section.
