ROXY Awards |
I. THE EARLY YEARS The ROXY Awards started almost four years back, when I noted that a lot of good fanfiction was ignored and not awarded, while the more popular authors got awards just because of name recognition. As a one-woman show, I looked for fanfics on the internet and gave them awards, meeting my December 29th deadline every year except for 2003. Around the first few seasons, the awards didn't take much priority over the rest of stuff on The Black Swan. II. ROXY AWARDS FRONT AND CENTER But that changed very soon. I applied for the Nanashi Awards, pouring my heart and soul into a fanfic. When the deadline approached, the owner of the awards broke it. I asked along with my cousin (who also nominated one of her fanfics) what was the matter, and the owner of the awards probably does not eat enough chocolate, so he snapped when Lola and I asked for the new deadline (though he has a lot of help, people actually send fanfiction to him and he has judges that read it for him.) Since he did not act at all apologetic or sincere, I gladly accepted his offer to be the first person banned from his contest. I swore that I would work harder than he did at keeping deadlines. III. RUNNING THE ROXYS I am a one-woman show. I don't sit on my butt waiting for people to send it fanfiction, because I know that, just like good fanfiction, this site is hard to find. I read every fanfic that i find or that is nominated personally five times. I design the awards, the site layout, everything. 2003 was my worst year due to lack of good fanfiction. I tried to stretch the deadline to look for that one fanfic that had punch, but as most people know Gundam Wing fandom is dying, dying, and dead (which makes me angry as ever.) IV. THE FUTURE 2004 is an optimistic year. The ROXY Awards is now officially open to all anime fandoms. It will mean more work, but good fanfiction is good fanfiction, and it's not limited to only Gundam Wing fandom. |
