Usagi Yojimbo-Antarctic Press Toys Meat and Potatoes; 4.0 Perks; 5.0 Homer Factor; 5.0 |
|||||||||
Description; The Rabbit Body-guard brought to life in 3-d!!! The figure is approximately 5" tall and dressed in his classic kimono and trousers. The kimono is blue with black spots and trimmed in white, with the symbol of the Mifune clan on the chest. The trousers are simply grey. Like the comic, the sculpting is simple. Think Batman-The Animated Series figures. Usagi comes with a spear, a Tokage, and his trade-mark daisho. |

I unfortunately I don't remember what got me to FINALLY buy the first Usagi Yojimbo trade-paperback. Whoever you are, BLESS YOU!!!!! I have gushed a number of times about this series through-out the site, so I won't drool any more. Needless to say, I prayed someone would create action-figures. Such a fun cast of characters, too; the demonic Jei, the greedy-and-occasionally-honorable Gen, Tomoe and Lord Noriyuki. Well, Stan Sakai's masterpiece took advantage of the new toy push in comic shops when Antarctic Press Toys released the Usagi figure. Ah, the Rabbit Ronin is brought to life. The meat and potatoes of this figure aren't McFarlane jaw-dropping, but still perfect in their own way. Usagi's simple sculpt captures the feel of the comic very well. No huge billowing sleeves, no rippling muscles, just the simple kimono and trousers of a wandering warrior. The expression on Usagi's face is PERFECT; the grim, determined ronin who does not suffer fools, there is also the scar over the left eye. Only problem is articulation. The figure is about 5" tall from foot to ears, so there could have been a bit more done, maybe better movment on the hips or something. The perks are outstanding. Usagi comes with the requisit daisho, a spear, and one of the ever-present lizards or Tokage. One gripe; couldn't they have created a scabard for the katana and wakizashi so Usagi could have them holstered to his hips? Oh well. Homer factor way high on this guy. I've gushed countless times about this wonderful creation of Stan Sakai, so you can imagine my reaction when a figure was announced. Woohoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All in all? This is a wonderful piece created by Antarctic Toys. They did an awesome job capturing the spirit of Stan Sakai's ronin; the simplicity and elegance of the samurai. I just wish they make more. |
