The 2006 International Toy Fair, cont. Back to p. 1 Hasbro Ok, ok, I’ll stop busting on Hasbro for the superhero debacles. They have two licenses that kick serious butt: Transformer and GI Joe! Transformers The Good. PRIMUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And you thought Unicron was a big, baaaad mo’fo'! The Bad. Unfortunately there aren’t that many new ‘OMG THAT’S AWESOME’ pieces coming out. Promo shots of Menasaur are popping up, which does look cool, but not as awe-inspiring as the first run of figures for ‘Cybertron’. The Ugly. Ok, so what happens next year? GI Joe The Good. The Sigma 6 large figures are actually pretty cool, and FINALLY we get vehicles with the new 2 ½” line. The Bad. Um... 2 ½” figures?!?!??! Oh, this should be interesting... The Ugly. Buying an army of those BAT figures at $10 a pop will hurt. Titanium Line The Good. LOTS of vehicles from ‘Star Wars’ to the new ‘Battlestar Galactica’ line. Cool! The Bad. Unfortunately it’s still not as cool as having vehicles that actually hold an action figure. Sorry guys. The Ugly. So what kinda licensing problems can you get in to if you put the Star Destroyer and the Galactica on your shelf on the same level? DC Direct Ok, ok, so not as mega-articulated or accessory packed as I would like. Still, the sculpting kick some SERIOUS ass, and where else can you get figures for Elongated Man and Zatanna? Bingo. The Good. LOTS of figures still going... and going... and going... and going. Major players like Mongul to background characters like Dr. Light. The Bad. Come one, give us more bling to go with the figures! Stands that look like diormas, more weapons, SOMETHING! At twice the price of a Marvel Legends figure, there’s gotta be a LITTLE more to throw into the blister pack. . The Ugly. In many ways Takara is putting out the most kick-ass DC figures. Doh! Diamond Select Ok, so they’re a distributor more then manufacturer. Still some great stuff from all over the freaking place! The Good. Star Trek, Japanese imports, and Marvel, oh my! Figures, statues, vehicles, soooo many possibilities. The Bad. Unfortunately this stuff is a big on the premium side so you can’t just walk in to your local shop and snag it on a whim. The Ugly. I wish they could get their hands on more Gundam and assorted transformable robots. Sigh. Cont on p. 3 |
