Getting back into the swing of things with a fulltime job has been a great thing – at least until I recently starting studying for the CA Bar Exam again.  The security of the job is fantastic, but recently I’ve had to start considering what direction my career will be going.  Whether or not I pass, this will be the last time I ever take the CA Bar Exam.  The discipline and time required are daunting and each time it requires more energy and money than before.  Even then, tho, I’ve been wondering if I ever really wanted to be an attorney.  What’s more confusing, career-wise, is that I’m talented in many different areas.  This is not modesty – I’ve had to excel in different levels of the work force just to survive.  Now I gotta choose.  Of course, if I ever win the Lottery, this could all be a moot issue.

But as it were, being more “stable” than I have been in years has been liberating, and also worrying because I’ve gotten swept up in the “freedoms” and have forgotten a few responsibilities, like paying bills on time.  Just when I was getting the hang of it, I move to So Cal and lose it.  Well, this old dog has got to re-learn some financial discipline.

That’s about it for what’s been on my mind recently.  Oh, except for one thing:  a couple of years ago, an old pal, Pete, recommended to me the Genesis album Trick of the Tail.  I first listened to it and was not very impressed.  Why?  I don’t know, but I was really digging Selling England By The Pound and the style change may have been a little too much.

Now, however, I’ve come to the realization that Trick of the Tail is THE best Genesis album – in style, lyrics, story telling and music.  Second would have to be Selling England By The Pound, then Genesis, then perhaps Nursery Chryme.  But that’s just me.

Have a great Summer ALL and I’ll update you soon!

Yup, I’m back.  And it’s been a while.  And it will take time to write a length about it, so here’s a play-by-play:

Jan-Feb 2001: Left Temp job at Crosby to study & take Feb CA Bar exam;

March 2001: Worked for 1 month at Napster [good times]

April 2001: Visited Orlando, FL for Disney World, Universal & NASA [great times!]

May 2001: Looked for work in SF Bay Area & LA Areas while in So Cal

June-Oct 2001: Still looking [occasional temp jobs in LA & Orange County]

Oct 2001: Temped as Admin Assistant at Bio Med Co. in Irvine, CA

Nov 2001:  Bio Med Co. hired me

Nov 2001-Present:  I’m WORKING!

How’s that for a play-by-play!

Truth be told, it sucked during most of the summer of 2001.  No job, bills to pay, no security at all!  That’s why I came to Orange County, I thought the chances of finding a full-time job were better, and I think I was right!

Now that I’m sorta back on track, new revisions to this site will continue, piecemeal, throughout the next couple of months.  New news will be posted, perhaps every other week, and revised pages as I can get to them.

That’s all for now!  Take care, thanks for visiting and…

Ok, so if you really want to know about the bar exam questions this round, here they are in a nutshell:

Essay 1: Community Property [basic]

Essay 2: Corporations [Director/Officer Duties, Minority Shareholder]

Essay 3: Criminal Procedure with Evidence cross-over [Miranda, Confessions, Hearsay]

PT#1:                      Opinion Letter

Essay 4: Tort Remedies [mostly Negligence]

Essay 5: Professional Responsibility [Ads, Solicitation, Non-Lawyer Employees]

Essay 6:                 Contracts [Performance/Conditions]

PT#2:                      Closing Arguments [Bench Trial]

The issues listed were only the main ones I could see.  Another big problem for me was how to organize the answer.  A couple of the interrogatories were vague, so part of the drill was probably to see if we could logically set up the problem in the first place.  So, on many levels, I don’t feel confident at all.

Of course, the Bar Examiners don’t want to make it easy, or else we would be overrun with attorneys.  We have enough jokes about attorneys as it is, no need to compound the issue ;)

So, I’ll be going back to the job market soon and earning some money again to start making more payments to the loans.

Now that I have some time back, I’ll be working on revamping a couple of the pages here.  Just check in once in a while, and I’ll have something new for you to read.

By the by, I’m currently reading John Glenn’s “A Memoir” and it’s actually pretty damn interesting.  For those out of the loop, John Glenn was the third American to be launched into space [Yes, Alan Shephard was the first!] and the first American to orbit during the Mercury Program, and I believe he is the oldest astronaut to travel into space on the Space Shuttle mission STS-95.  If you’ve ever watched “The Right Stuff” you know where most of this is coming from, but the book is about his life and achievements in the Marines, the Mercury Program, the Senate, the Space Shuttle Mission, and his family.  He is very proud of it all, and he really does come across as a boy scout [though he never was in one].

Good reading – I highly recommend it.

That’s all for now.

Happy New Year, Happy New Millennium!

I welcome this new year as the chance to start fresh, start anew, start…SOMETHING.

That something is…something that I don’t know about just yet.  However, I will be taking the CA Bar Exam again a little over one month from now, so please wish me luck, and hope that I don’t ever have to do this again.

I have to admit that 2000 was not such a great year.  Well, some good things happened, like I met some really great people, one of whom I hope will turn out to be really, REALLY great.   But that can wait.  I also found out a lot about myself and where my head is really at.  So, it was a year of personal growth [if you can call it that], through pain, loss, hard work, and working out some interpersonal relationships that were “left over” from the previous year.

In other words, it wasn’t an easy.

So, I hope that 2001 will treat me a little better than a baby treats a diaper, give me a pat on my back every so often, and maybe, just maybe, I’ll be able to see some fruits of my labors.  Or I could just hit the Lotto and not have to worry about that! J

And so to you, whomever should read this little blurb, Good Luck, Good Fortune, and may this New Year leave you better off than when you started it.

Pax!
