Long Distance Running for
Small Plump People
Why do you get hot?
The oxygen you breathe is burned in the same way it's burned in a fire. (oxygen plus sugar
becomes water and carbon dioxide) (the carbon dioxide gets breathed out).
The side effect is heat
(just like in a car).
The sugar and oxygen fuel the movement in your muscles, but they get hot.
A note to the plump: if you happen to get puffed you can think of your body as fueling a little furnace
inside you to burn up your body fat.
Why do you sweat?
Your body lets water through the skin to evaporate to cool you down.
If your body gets too
overheated you get nasty side effects.
But you don't need to worry about these because you body
knows how to sweat. And it will.
Is dehydration really so bad?
I get heartburn and wind pains (terrible cramps in my intestines) (usually when I'm trying to sleep).
I
find that drinking water clears both these up almost immediately.
I'm not planning on doing any
further research.
Here's the big news
A health nurse at my work told me that office workers should drink water through the day because if
your brain gets too dry you get confused.
Wow! That'll explain why you (me actually) get so dreamy when you've been running for a while.
I
thought it must be hyperventilation but I've tried drinking more and I definately can cross the road
more safely if I'm stopping for a drink.
Also I am less clumsy so I have less trouble getting having a
shower afterwards.
More about dehydration
It seems that once you body has used all the obvious water for sweat, it starts knicking it from other
places.
Notably your intestines (which is why their contents get hard and difficult to shift) and your
gall bladder.
Your gall bladder is a plastic pot (or whatever) that holds the bile ready to be squirted
into your stomach when you eat.
When you get thirsty and your body knicks all the extra moisture
to use as sweat it seems to leak bile into your tummy and give you heart burn. (I figured this out,
about the leaking and giving you heartburn - I challenge the medical profession to correct me).
More irrelevant stuff about bile
Your body goes to incredible lengths to re-use bile. One of the principle functions of the liver is to
retrieve the used bile from the yummy sugar laden blood that comes from your intestines - and drain
it into your gall bladder to be used again. So if you ever wonder why we're here and if anything in
this world is precious - I'm telling you! Bile is precious! Your liver cares! And it doesn't care who
knows it. If you don't believe me just look it up in an encylopaedia.
