EBENEZER HARRIS was born in 1803 in North Carolina. He came to Wayne County, Georgia at an early age with his brother Jimpsey, b. 1817 and his sister Louisa, b. 1810. Their parentage is not known, although their father may have been the Francis Harris who lived in Wayne County in 1820. In August 1827 in Wayne County, Georgia, Ebenezer married Martha Purdom, b. 1812, daughter of Thomas Purdom and Mrs. Mary Ann Dennison, widow of William Dennison. Ebenezer was commissioned November 11, 1825, as Militia Captain, 335th district of Wayne County and served several years. He was granted 356 acres of land by the State in 1837, and 550 acres in 1856. These lands laid in the part of Wayne that was formerly in Glynn County prior to 1805, and not in the original County of Wayne (which had been divined into lots and districts, each lot being 490 acres and drawn in the State lottery of 1805). This land would now be somewhere in Brantley County, between the north-south part of the Satilla River and the Post Road.

FRANCIS HARRIS was born somewhere between 1775 and 1796 and was living in Wayne County, Georgia in 1820, according to the 1820 Georgia Census. LDS records state that he was born in 1788 and was father of Ebenezer Harris of Wayne County, Georgia. While I currently have no proof of this relationship, it does seem very plausible given the makeup of the Francis Harris household in 1820. The only two Harris households in 1820 Wayne County was his and a widowed female named Elsey who lived nearby. I believe Francis and Elsey to have moved down from Pitt County, NC, where the Wainwrights, Coopers, Highsmiths and Lewis' had also migrated to Southeast Georgia from.  I think Elsey is Alsey Fulford, who married Ichabod Harris on 6/10/1794 in NC. This Ichabod Harris was b. 1774 Pitt Co., NC and was son of George Brin and Ann Harris.  According to LDS records, Ichabod died in 1804 in Carteret, NC.   Ichabod could very well have been Francis' brother. Alsey and her children may have migrated to Georgia with her brother-in-law Francis' family just after her husband died.

NOTE : The only other Harris in Wayne County in 1820 was Eley Harris. She appears to be a widow with 3 kids   (1 male 0-10, two females 1 0-10, 1 10-16). She is listed later as Elsey in 1830 census. She may very well be a sister-in-law of Francis.
