scifi/Hack1/links

/links is a list of related sites (or at least interesting). Clink on the links below to leave scifi/Hack1. But come back soon.

  • Proper Manuscript Format - Yes, your work can be rejected simply because it doesn't look right. This site explains perfectly how to print your story or novel in proper format. This way, any rejection slips are all about your work. Er.
  • SFWA - the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association and home to the Nebula Awards. Lots of links to good articles about science fiction, from how to create planets to whether you need a literary agent or not. Highly recommended.
  • Online Writer's Workshop for Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror - You join. You submit your rough drafts. Other members critique your work. You revise and get a stronger story. It may cost $49/year for membership, but it's well worth it.
  • Pitfalls of Writing Science Fiction and Fantasy - 12 things most beginning authors do that you should not. Funny and informative, but a little scary how often I've seen these pitfalls in real stories.
  • Biological factors in the evolution of intelligence - I think this is a website for some college class, but it the best site I've found for how intelligent life could evolve on other planets.
  • Baby Names - Baby names? Don't laugh. This is a great resource for coming up with character's names. Breaks names down by gender and culture of origin, so you can find a real first name for your femal Japanese character.
  • SpecFicWorld - Wow. We're talking a HUGE amount of links and resources for science fiction writers. There's a lot of ads, but there's good content here. We promise.
  • World-Building Resources - part of SpecFicWorld, this site is a series of links on how to build a realistic alien world. Check out all the links and find one that you like.
  • Science Fiction Book Database - Fine, so they have databases for fantasy and horror too. But this site's SciFi database is amazing. Search by author, title, series, or even plot synopsis.
  • Technovelgy - Get this. A site that catalogues imaginary technology made by science fiction writers. From stuff that has already come around (voice-operated phones) to stuff that a long way off (human-like androids), it's a great place for inspiration. Or outright theft of another's ideas. Decide for yourself which is more likely.

Send me an email so I can feel important.
