She's Here!!!!  It's a FILLY!!!!
Spirit, our CHAMPAGNE Draft foal born 3-5-03
Introducing Danny Boy's Moon Spirit, born 430 am 3-5-03 (Ostella's Danny (Oliver's)  x WSF Empress Molly Rose).

Her sire is an American Cream Draft Stallion (medium Cream - a gold champagne), and her dam is a dark bay (bay sooty)  Percheron.

Spirit is 41" tall and over 150 pounds! Last night there was only a golden crescent moon in the sky - and look at her forehead marking!  Myryha, my daughter, had already decided that the foal should be a buckskin and would be named Spirit.

She is an amber CHAMPAGNE in color - looks a bit like buckskin, but it's the champagne gene - pink skin, yellow coat, blue eyes that will turn hazel as she matures.  Her "points" (legs, mane, tail) may turn more chocolate. Most Cream Draft foals are darker at birth than at maturity.  She is  a VERY special little (or not so little!!!)  girl!!!
I am only 3 hours old in this picture, do I look a little wet and still unsteady? Keep on scrolling down to see more picture of ME!
Must run and frisk and stretch those big legs!  It got kind of cramped in there, mom!!!  (1  day old )
And at 7 weeks old - look at the big girl now!!! Below, with Chris 4-27-03, 7 weeks old.
A big difference from when she was only 4 days old!  Myryha feeding Spirit some "oakmeal".
Here's how you tell a champagne from a buckskin - see the pink skin and blue eye?  A buckskin would have dark skin and dark eyes.  Her skin will stay dusky, and her eyes will turn hazel as she gets older.  She also has "mealy points" (pangare) that she inherited from her mom, but those are independent from the champagne gene.
Above photo at 4 days, upper right at 7 weeks,  right photo (photo taken 7 am day 1).

Below - photo taken Friday am at 3 days old.  Even with the dark "moustache" you can see her blue eyes, and pink lips and nostrils.
(right) Here is a photo on our second day, taken Thursday morning.  You can see her blue eye a little better, and the pink skin at her lips.  Look at her Mom's nose, and you will see dark lips.  The white around her nose (and those big draft horse foal ears) kind of look mule-ish, but it is a gene common in some horse breeds called Pangare.  Blonde Belgian horses have it, so do Norwegian Fjord horses.  Molly Rose also has a "mealy muzzle", hers is just not as white as baby Spirit's nose.
See how much more brown my "Black" is getting"  This is Friday morning, and I am three days old.  Look at my blue eyes!  And you will note my legs are much lighter now, (look at mom's legs, too- well. she's kind of muddy...) and my tail is brown now!!!
Hey Mom, This spigot doesn't work!!!
Here's mamma horse (Molly Rose), Grammie, Spirit, and Buster Brown the dog.  He's an Australian Shepherd mix and no small fry for a dog - but this is one big baby girl!  43" at the withers (she really did get bigger in just a day - note how her pasterns are a little lax day one - by day 4 she was a full 2" taller!!!  EEEK!) and possibly 150 pounds... Mamma is 16 hands and 1800 pounds - or maybe 1700 now that she will start working on getting her figure back...
Buster Brown the Guard dog, and patient mamma Molly Rose watch over a tired newborn baby horse!
